Sign Of The Night
Just a word regarding the nation's best defense. Idaho's Deonte Jackson finished with 99 yards rushing. Last year only one opponent rushed against USC for 100 yards or more, and that was Clint Polk with exactly 100 in the Oregon State game.

Comments
I think you have to stop calling the nations best defense. Because now that a game has been played, it's not. It might not even be the Pac-10 best defense.

Let me guess...the USC homers will say, "Well Cushing got hurt and he wasn't in there most of the time. When we got ahead, Deonte Jackson was running against our 2nd teamers and 3rd teamers."
Nebraska looks awfully appealing in my eyes for an upset, or at the very least they should more than cover the spread whatever it will be in 10 days or so.
This defense reminds me why I stopped following the Trojans last year. Well, Kiffin and Booty were obviously the main reasons why that team sucked, but our freakin' D sucks!
We NEVER forced turnovers last year...and look for that trend to continue. Remember that string of 5 games without a forced turnover or something like that? I remember watching the games last year and USC's turnover differential was good from 2002-2005...and last year was just downright embarassing for the +/- turnover margin between the offense and defense.
Remember Taylor Mays saying something like,"They teach us to go for the ball in practice. It's hard to tackle and strip someone of the ball at the same time"?
We better hope Everson Griffen lives up to the hype.......

USC has the best defense? Muhahahaha. That scrub running back was running all over USC's overated defense. USC has too many white players to be considered the best defense. Terrell Thomas sucks monkey ballz. Kevin Ellison is slower than a tortise. UCLA has the best defense in LA and a better coach in Dwayne Walker. LSU is light years better than USC. Joe Mcknight is slow andthe USC o-line sucks. Still no breakaway threat and Booty still Stank.

I love UCLA fans! Unless the Trojan defense cure cancer, they will never live up to the hype. Can't the Pac-10 fans unite for once and enjoy the fact we silenced all the haters this weekend. College Football is finally here and I am lovin' it!

Please ban John Redcorn. he's already race baiting on it only the first game of the season.

BTW Scott,
Not to give fuel to your haterz over at WEARESC.COM (basically because you don't report in their "Gee Whiz" style), but Jackson got 42 of his 99 yards in the 4th quarter, against our 2nd and third team defenses. It's pretty lazy reporting not to point that out.
The issue regarding the defense is not statistics taken out of context (like Jackson's totals) but why the 1st team defense had to blitz to get any pressure and the QB and the play of the corners.

I wasn't too impressed with the D last night. They didn't look like the nations best. Idaho was able to move the ball, just not get TDs and we couldn't get pressure on the QB. We also couldn't force any fumbles. I think it will improve though.
Fight On!

I'm sorry but since when did yards count in wins and losses. The first string D gave up 3 points (and that was after they already started substituting second stringers). I could give a damn about yards - as long as the defense holds teams scoring down USC will be OK. UCLA gave up 17 points to STANFORD how the hell can they be the best defense in LA?!
Oh that's right I forgot you're still counting last year's game in this season stats cause that's all you have. Bruins are sad.
I do have concerns about bringing pressure with the front 4 though.

Ever notice that Bruin trolls are always posting over here, but few SC fans bother to bug Dohn over on his blog.
That's because there really aren't any Bruin fans, only SC haterz.
That's fine with because because in the end it's all about SC.

Bruins are pathetic. They beat a team about as good as Idaho by the same point margin and say that SC played bad? Rather sad considering SC used 25% of their playbook, rotated the entire team throughout the game, used the game as essentially a live scrimmage to hone a few things. Stanford was competitive until the third quarter -- didn't they post more than 300 yards in passing?
That's fine -- let them (and the Cornroll.., er uh Cornhuskers) that they that have a chance...

Husker 37...are you guys going to start talking the same old smack that your team could not back up last year?...And will it be more or less embarrassing for you when you lose to USC in Lincoln?
Georgio -You are so right...UCLA clearly has the best D in LA...it was unbelievable how UCLA shut down a power house like Stanford with such ease....it demonstrated that UCLA’s coaches are the best in college football...and you are so right...McKnight looked really slow...like Reggie Bush slow...when he scurried and reversed across the field, burning the entire Idaho D for 21 yards.

Desmo:
1. Do you know how to read?
2. Show exactly the "race baiting" and then explain it.
JJ:
You should be a soap opera star, I'm just kidding!
Thank you

Door Prize:
The John Redcorn post was removed, but it still remains as quote from Husker37's post "[quote] ... USC has too many white players to be considered the best defense ..."
If you were here last year you'd know what I'm talking about. Race baiting is a John Redcorn trademark.

OMG, there are Husker fans here now? Is this what we are in for this year? Every week we're gonna have to deal with fans from every possible team showing up here?
Damn this internet...

John Redcorn, I'm sure the USC team would be fine if you stopped following them this year, too.
We've played one game and, yeah, the 2nd-3rd string defenders came into the game late in the 2nd quarter, but we should "look for the trend to continue" in terms of lack of turnovers.
Being a homer for your team is worse than selling them down the river after one game? STFU

I was here last year. To be honest I did NOT monitor this blog as close as I do now or lately. In the context that you showed you are absolutely right therefore I am wrong and I apologize for getting on your case.
Thanks

4H(jj)...[are you guys going to start talking the same old smack that your team could not back up last year?...And will it be more or less embarrassing for you when you lose to USC in Lincoln?] So you HAVE seen us b4..The only Smak I remember seeing was from a DB we got from FLA..1st BBS I ever hung out on was a Gatorboard..FL guys can't help talking smack for some mysterious reason. (I blame Country/Rap)
And ANYtime someone Looses to a PAC team, it's gotta be embarrasing. It's still dissapointing to have to watch what passes for Football Living in PAC/ASU land..The Highschool teams are more entertaining and actually play Defense.
We're still not up to our standards, but I hope you guys show up in full force and healthy..And HAVE A GREAT GAME!
Oh..And no fair having receivers who actually catch the ball..Some of those were amazin'

“And ANYtime someone Looses to a PAC team, it's gotta be embarrasing.” (sorry DP for the typos...but this was a quote!)...
...you mean like when Oklahoma got wacked 55-19 in the BCS National Championship Game embarrassing? Sorry Husker 37...but I will go with the conference that is 7 - 4 in BCS Bowl games over the conference that is 5 - 7.
But we can agree that it will be a great and exciting Game Day in Lincoln.

I thought typos were a requirement here.
OU was in a BCS Championship game? Who'd they play?..Great..Now I gotta look that one up-Thanks a lot!!
Were they still running that dang Wishbone?
I'll assume you're talking about last(one)year's BCS Bowl records..Neither one looks that impressive.
Just that over the years..for some reason, the rare loss to any PAC10 team was the most embarrassing..And Paradymes die slow.
