Comments
LSU and Va Tech that high is a joke after their performances. Maybe USC at #1 is, too. Just because a team starts off somewhere doesn't mean anything after you've seen them play.
And Cal at #10? They looked like one of the five best teams in the country on Saturday night.

LSU was very impressive in their victory, why shouldn't they be number two?

Michigan fell from #5 to unranked. I wonder if that's the biggest one week fall in AP history?
If you would have told me 5 years ago that Hawaii, Rutgers, & Boise were in the top 20 I would have laughed in your face.

Wow! 1/3 of the Versus Nine in the top 25 and no Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami, or Florida State. Whoulda thunk?

Bosco, I think you missed Washington there at 25. That's 4 Versus teams in the top 25. How do you do!

Oklahoma well below Texas, hmmm? That's some preseason poll inertia right there.
Rutgers and Virginia Tech are a bit too high. Georgia is definitely too low.
Agree with most of the rankings though.

sureshot32, problem with reading comprehension, fractions or both? "1/3 of the Versus Nine in the top 25"
1/3 of 9 = 3
Versus NINE (and USC)

Also, I have no idea what Matthew is smoking regarding LSU. Beating an SEC team on the road, in an opener, in the rain, by a score of 45-0 is quite impressive. Sure, the offense didn't totally gel (at least not before I got bored of the blowout and stopped watching around pick #5), but that's a damn good defense.

In fact, I'm almost tempted to move LSU in front of USC, because it was the kind of laziness that they showed in the Idaho game that bit them last season.

U-Dub in the Top 25? Great news for Ty!
I want to know when Charlie Weis is on the hot seat? Cheesebuger's 3 year record will be worse than Ty's at ND after this year's debacle. Also Willingham will have beaten more ranked teams than Chuck.
Instead of an outcry in South Bend, they extended his deal.

Did you watch the game? I thought they looked awful, despite what the scoreboard said. LSU got FIVE really easy picks - they weren't defensive work as much as really bad throws by the QB.
If Tech hadn't looked so awful, too, I'd have them beating LSU in their house next week by two TDs. LSU will lose two games or more this year. And I'm sad about it, because I'd love for USC to see them in the 'ship.

Miss State is awful. They should bring back ex-coach Jackie Sherill and have him castrate another bull to inspire the Bulldogs.
No Mike Vick jokes , please!

Lets watch Va Tech for another week before deciding if they are too high. There was a lot of emotion in that game because of the shooting incident last year...This week will be a telltale sign though!

It's true the LSU defense was massively helped by the Miss St. QB, but what really impressed me was the way they shut down the run and short passing games. There was just nothing there, which I think contributed to the desperation tosses downfield.
LSU's offense strung a play or two together here and there; it's rare to see an offense really roll through an entire game in the SEC. Miss St. was pretty bad last year, but was supposed to be on an upswing. LSU has something to work with and the defense should pull them through some games. But if the offense does not get better than LSU will drop at least one SEC game, I agree.
Bottom line, I didn't see anyone else look far better than LSU against a decent BCS conference school. Things will be a lot clearer when more teams start playing real opponents.

Ok...not sure if it's really scott or not..I see West Virginia near #1 and a Florida school ranked WAY higher than they should be..now that's scott..but I don't see Notre Dame ranked in it's usual slot about 11 spots above where it should be..

Scott's description was vague, but this appears to be Scott's AP Top 25. (For example, FUCLA is ranked 22nd by Scott, but 13th in the actual AP poll.)
Here is the AP Top 25 for this week, according to ESPN:
1. USC (59) 1-0 1,619
2. LSU (5) 1-0 1,542
3. West Virginia (1) 1-0 1,449
4. Florida 1-0 1,346
5. Oklahoma 1-0 1,275
5. Wisconsin 1-0 1,275
7. Texas 1-0 1,221
8. Louisville 1-0 1,152
9. Virginia Tech 1-0 1,085
10. California 1-0 1,080
11. Georgia 1-0 959
12. Ohio State 1-0 940
13. UCLA 1-0 736
14. Penn State 1-0 662
15. Rutgers 1-0 659

I'm sure all the Trojan lovers love this rebuilding period at ND. But, they should remember this...Ty, in his three years at ND only recruited three (3) "Top 100" high school athletes. In the same time period Weis has recruited eighteen (18) high school athletes. During the same three year time period at UW, Ty has recruited one (1) "TOP 100" (Locker).
Weis is still forced to start 66% of Willingham's players. 33% of his (sophomores and freshmen).
Although I have the utmost respect for what Carroll has done at Southern Cal...Weis'/Nortre Dame's day will come...the Irish will rise again.

How much easier is it to recruit to ND right now, considering the debacle of the last 2 head coaches at Washington? Weis has 18 top 100 recruits? How many are in play right now? You know that the talent Ty recruited to ND for Weis is just as good if not better than what he inherited from Neuheisal and Gilbertson at Washington, so how is it that Weis doesn't seem to be able to win more with his better recruits and the equal or better talent that he inherited? Because he's not as good a coach, pure and simple. Once Ty gets the program turned around (this year), he will recruit more top 100 kids to Washington than Weis will to ND, guaranteed. Time to stop blaming Weis's shortcomings on Willingham and put it where it belongs, right on Jaba's shoulders...
