BCS History
Since 1998, the lowest-ranked team in the first BCS poll to make the national-championship game was LSU, ranked 12th in 2003. In 10 years this is only the third time six one-loss teams made the top 10 in the initial poll.
Here's a chart that shows where the BCS-title game participants were ranked in the first week's poll.
1998: Tennessee (3), Florida State (5)
1999: Florida State (1), Virginia Tech (3)
2000: Oklahoma (2), Florida State (5)
2001: Nebraska (2), Miami (4)
2002: Miami (2), Ohio State (6)
2003: Oklahoma (1), LSU (12)
2004: USC (1), Oklahoma (4)
2005: USC (1), Texas (2)
2006: Ohio State (1), Florida (6)

So #1 or #2 makes it roughly half the time and 10% of the time both make it.
Thanks.
And in 2003, Who did you (the Daily News) vote #1????
Well Scott..to be honest I think they got it turned around and will win the rest of their games...even if just because Cal is going into a shell and not passing and I am not impressed with Oregon. But there just isn't any way we can overcome that loss and get to the NC game. Maybe win out and beat LSU in the sugar bowl and end up #2.
Barring some chain of disasters like South Florida loses to Connecticut then LSU loses to vanderbilt then...
Will turning it around and winning the remaining games really get SC to the NC? Although that's what I'm hoping for, I'm having a hard time seeing it happen. Strength of schedule is killing them right now and unless Notre Dame begins a huge win streak (after Saturday, of course), it's going to be hard for them to climb back unless this season of dramatic upsets continues at the same pace.
True, they have some top clubs that they can topple along the way, but many of those ahead of them have weaker schedules with perhaps 1 or 2 challenging games for the rest of the season.
Even if ND winning the rest of their games would help our SOS, I have enough distain for ND to hope they lose out.
sureshot is a man after my own heart.
That entire program, coaching staff, team, fans and the whole kit 'n kaboodle makes me wanna puke
That's a school that is nothing particularly special, it's not like other programs don't have a good history (alabama, Oklahoma) or good academics (Stanford, Rice).
But for whatever reason ND chooses to be arrogant beyond belief, demeaning, condescending, and generally the biggest A-holes in college football.
Then when everyone gets' angry at them they say :
"You are just jealous of us"
hahahaha
USC 1966, I think we can stop participating in the blog now. Sureshot32 has us covered and then some.
Sureshot32 you da man!
