Booty Update

Lots of compliments for John David Booty today as he had his best day of practice according to Pete Carroll but he would not start today if USC played a game.
Booty's velocity remains an issue, Carroll said.
"He's not throwing at his best but he was pretty good."

oh puhleeeze...... Booty's best isn't that good, unless you're just judging distance & velocity, rather than game results.

have him get sacked a few times in practice and see what happens......

I actually think this is great news. I never trusted to whole "if Sanchez struggles we can bring in Booty" argument, but now that Booty is getting better and better, it actually might be a great plan to plug in Sanchez and put in Booty if the offense struggles.

Booty has only lost 3 games in 1 1/2 seasons as a starter. Some QB lose that in a year. How many did Carson lose? (6 in his JR year, 2 in his Heisman SR year) How about some of the other SC greats? In the larger picture Booty is a good QB.

We have a pretty long history of good QB, even those who struggled in the NFL. Would you rather have a great QB like Jay Cutler and his awesome record?

The Sanchez VS. Booty argument is not that difficult: Booty is a better QB, Sanchez is a better PLAYER. That is what the intangible is...as an analogy, I throw out the Emmitt Smith vs. Barry Sanders comparison...Smith was a better RB, Barry was a better PLAYER.

Booty reminds me of Palmer in his JR year, and frankly, he shows no signs of suddenly getting better, which is what Palmer did. i am still amazed that he won the Heisman, but that's something JD won't have to worry about either.

Booty's best was never that good. In his three losses as a starter, the best he could do in the clutch is get two passes blocked and throw an interception. Don't forget last year against Oregon St. and FUCLA he didn't have a busted finger. So what was his excuse then? Against Stanford he should have pulled himself out for the betterment of the team!

Look at his stats for that OSU game. He was dominant. It was not his fault they were in that position. And can we start the countdown to when 13-9 Fluke has to change his name! 37 days.
