Booty Vs. Sanchez

| | Comments (21) |

John David Booty's broken finger was still swollen after the game and USC coach Pete Carroll said he was unsure if Booty would be healthy against Oregon. Carroll did say Booty should be the starter when he is 100 percent.
``He's been our starter all year long,'' Carroll said.
Mark Sanchez said he wants to start against Oregon.
``I don't want to let it go,'' he said.
Booty said he thinks he should start.
``If you ask me, yeah, I do,'' he said.

They are both great kids and players and both deserve deserve to start. Tough situation for Pete, both qb's and the team.....inevitable that the players will have their own take on who should start.

The only solution I can surmise: put them in the octagon!

Loved Sanchez today with the four throwing TDs. What a fun show!

WHY don't you honor your name? Sánchez definitely showed his intangibles. His intangibles clearly separates him from JDB.
It was showtime, it's Mark time.
¡Viva Sánchez!

What happened to the Sanchez = turnover machine commentators from last week? While ND is hardly a true test, he showed poise and talent today. Maybe gained some confidence and rhythm with the receivers (totally absent with JDB) a'la Leinart. Has the same energy and support for his teammates too, it appears. Super performance. Let's build on it for the upcoming games. Oregon is vulnerable, they showed it today.

good job Mark Sanchez. keep it going!

all we hear is silence from the MM fan club. sad testimony.

Door Prize, I'll reserve judgment for now. Scott Wolf probably could have thrown for 200 yards against Notre Dame. Sanchez (or sanCHEZ as the NBC announcers kept calling him...so annoying) did not look great against Arizona and today is still sort of a question mark in my mind.

I think he probably gets the start in Oregon if the injury report about Booty still having swelling in his finger is true. I hope he has the kind of game up there that he had today if he gets the start. Same goes for Booty.

Capt: HAHAHAHA! Definitely should solve that.

JDB is a classy guy, no reason for him to start until he can throw normally. Oregon will be a big challenge, if Sanchez starts then, and wins, then he should start the remainder of the year.

Scott, could you answer something for us. Is it Sanchez (1.5 syllables) or San CHEZZZZ? And was that the same Pat Haden that won the Rhodes Prize and QB'd a great USC team in the 1970s calling the game like a ND homer?

Bosco, check out how Door Prize spells it above with the accent above the first syllable. I was yelling at the TV the entire game about Haden and that other jackass saying sanCHEZ over and over. They have spent too much time in flyover country...either that or they think he's French.

Capt. I.:
I stated a few times I am bilingual. I read, write and speak both languages fluently. I admit I still have an accent but I am also fairly articulate. You are right both Pat Haden and Tom Hammond kept pronouncing Sánchez incorrectly. Honestly I have given-up on that. The Latin baseball players names definitely get butchered all the time, go figure! I tell you what. California's beauty and richness which I miss by the way are all those Spanish names. I watch 7&11 LA TV stations and a lot of those names are butchered as well.
Capt Int. Sanchez in his second start ND or NOT performed impressively. He managed the game well. The team cohesiveness and chemistry was there. It means that the team respects and responds to Sanchez. Like I have been posting several times MS had a patched-up OL with three back-up OLmen. JDB had the same team with a much healthier OL and threw SIX INT's. You can NOT honestly say that the chemistry with JDB and MS was the same. You stated that SW could have QB'd against ND and beat them>UHM? ND beat UCLA a week ago, right? ¡Correcto! To make matters worse UCLA turns around and beat Cal. Who's the expert and who's the dummy? OUCH! Finally BoscoH ND signs Pat Haden's checks. You don't forget USC and John McKay just like that overnight. Pardon my slang I ain't buying it, baby!
Once more:
It's showtime, it's Mark time!
¡Viva Sánchez!
Thank you

The bottom line here is who is the QB that the team RESPONDS to??? From the start of the 4th quarter last week that man is Sanchez, simple as that. He has more moxy than Booty, and from what I can tell he will not go into La-La land in a tough environment, such as Oregon, like Booty seems to do. Lastly, who has been the QB for the three most devastating losses the last two years?....Booty. Start Sanchez and SC will run the table the rest of the year.

While I commend JDB for waiting 4 yrs to finally play, Coach has to do whats best for the team!
Presently, Sanchez gives us the best chance to win period! There is no way JDB can be effective in throwing the ball after 2 weeks removed from breaking his middle finger!

Sanchez is doing a great job right now and the team is responding! No need to fix something that's not broken! Sanchez's intangibles out weigh JDBs and Ssnchez is 100% healthy!

I also like the fact that Sanchez looks to make plays downfield as opposed to JDB who is too conservative to let plays develop. JDB checks down too quickly and too much in my opinion. Sanchez's mobility allows plays to develop longer and also to get out when the pocket breaks down!

Now that some of our injured starting OL will be coming back, I'm anxious to see how Sanchez really fares with the starting OL! Let the Sanchez era begin!

You can't put the game all on the final play. But the reason we get these highly regarded recruits is so they can rise up to the occasion on those final plays.

Booty had some chances. From what I recall he spent those chances near the goal line to get his pass batted down.

If Sanchez was in that situation what wouldve happened? Well we can't answer that, but in my opinion his athletic ability and height could have led to more possibilities than getting a ball knocked down.

I'm not trying to do a what could've been post here. It's more of, if we're in that tight situation again, who would I want quarterbacking this team. I think I'd go with the guy that would do more than sit in the pocket, too slow to move, and too short to throw a ball over the D-line

Door Prize - I am not Latino but I am also a Spanish speaker. No I am not completely fluent but I have studied and spoken the language for many years, making the mispronunciation issue that much more annoying.

As for the Booty/Sanchez debate, I don't think either of us are wrong. Sanchez definitely played a great game and I have no problems with him starting next week (and whether or not Booty keeps his job there is no reason for him to be starting if his finger is not 100% healed). I think that with players getting healthy again, and with reserve O-linemen playing well, either QB can be a winner. May the best man win the job, I say.

My only reservation is that yesterday's game was not against a top-tier team like the kind they will be playing for the rest of the season. For now, it certainly looks like Sanchez will get the start in Oregon, and if he plays there like he played yesterday, it will probably put an end to the debate once and for all. I'm not down on Sanchez at all - I just say that we should wait one more week before we make the final judgment on the Booty vs. Sanchez debate.

Sep000, not to come off as a Booty apologist (I'm not, by any means), but Booty and Sanchez are the same height. There were a lot of rumblings about this last year when Booty was getting his passes batted down and there was a call for Sanchez to start. They're both 6'3". Sanchez is more mobile, definitely, but the height issue between them is moot.

this whole thing is a moot point.

JDB is the starter and will be the starter. PC runs this team like an NFL program and JDB won't lose his job to injury. That's D-IAA stuff.

We should be happy MS looks so good and we will be set next year, whether it's Sanchez or Mustain.

Personally I like MM he is smart enough and had the guts to get out of Arkansas when USC came to town and he saw a real team

:o))

You are correct. JDB should not lose his job due to injury. When he is 100%, he should start. But he should be ON A VERY SHORT LEASH.

Mark threw to all of the receivers. Unfornately, all of the receivers had some drops too. :>). He sometimes went to the third receiver in the progression, he looked away then came back to a receiver, and he douple pumped. I have never seen JDB do these things. However, MS did stare down one receiver and the ball was batted in his face. He never stared down a receiver the rest of the game. His no-huddle series were good building blocks. He is definately a gamer. WE GOT US FOOTBALL PLAYER.

Reminds me of when the Washington Redskins replaced Jay Schroder very late in the 87 season (perhaps even the last game) with Doug Williams. All that happenned was a Super Bowl blowout and a MVP award. Hope loyalty to a 5th year senior doesn't get in the way of what appears to be the obvious choice.

Hey Scottie, didn't you say Booty was "smirking on the sidelines" about Sanchez's play vs Arizona. After the Notre Dame game it looks like Booty's now worried about losing his job. Nice turn-around Sanchez. At the very least the competition should be heightened and lead to better performance at the QB spot. Otherwise...next!
