Booty Wants To Play
John David Booty said he wants to play this week and will try to throw tomorrow. He will wear a glove in practice and said his swelling went down over the weekend.
We'll see what Pete Carroll says.
Rey Maualuga gets an MRI tonight but said he felt a pop in his hip and called it one of the worst pains he's felt.
He said he could not play if a game were today.
UPDATED: Carroll said Mark Sanchez will be the No. 1 quarterback in practice tomorrow and "we'll see where we are" after Booty throws.

I'll take Cushing, Rivers and Thomas Williams. Rest up Rey to go kill Oregon. While I am sure Booty would love to play in South Bend (think about it, he never has), please rest up as much as possible for the upcoming gauntlet.
Not bad considering you showed up after practice ended, Wolfie...
greengables took the words right out of my mouth.
Wolfie, it would be interesting if you could run a poll for who should start at QB Saturday, assuming JDB is cleared to play. From the comments, I bet it would be 50/50. Personally, I think Sanchez gives us the best chance to win in a tight game. Sadly, JDB folds under pressure.
I think it's nuts that injured players say I feel OK and I'm going to play. And sports writers always put this in the column...newsprint and web. But how about the coaches? Where the hell are they?
oops, I meant no disrespect to Wolfie. He said we'll see what PC says. I meant in general that I think it's unlikely that an injured, limited Booty (or anyone) is a better bet that the next guy on the depth chart!
I don't think any self-respecting football fan would really think Sanchez gives us a better chance to win than Booty. Booty is more experienced and is more accurate. Forget the INTs, a lot were mistakes on the WRs and others were late in the game when Booty was trying to push the envelope. Sanchez clearly has more difficulty making the best decisions (Booty is very smart at QB) and he telegraphs his passes sometimes (not that Booty doesn't at all either, but not as much). Booty led this team over some big opponents last year, including Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

Ummm, 04trojan, did you watch last year's UCLA game. The Oregon St game? This year's UW and Stanford games? JDB is an outstanding young man, but he lacks that certan X factor that great QBs must have to lead the troops, pull the team together, and make everyone around him play better. He is also immobile and uncreative. With impeccable blocking and stud receivers, he throws a beautiful ball, but under pressure, he folds like a tortilla. Sanchez is a versatile, mobile playmaker who inspires the troops. If we have a shot at a BCS bowl this year, we must ride Sanchez.
TELL HIM NO COACH!
You're damn right, Booty wants to play! We're midway through his senior season and he's obviously well aware that his grasp on the starting QB job is slipping away. Who can blame him for wanting to come back sooner than he should?
Every kid growing up wants to play in Notre Dame Stadium, so I have a feeling Booty will get in the game.
Booty has been involved in three losses at SC. At Oregon State, if one recalls, SC got behind by 23 points because of Washington fumbles and poor tackling. Booty brought SC back to within two points, so I would not count that as a failure.
UCLA was an offensive loss, there being no running attack, and the offensive line not being able to keep the UCLA ends off of Booty.
Booty got the lead on Stanford, but the defense could not hold it.
Doesn't sound as if the kid has had a bad career.
Damn right JDB wants to play this week. He'd better want to play. He knows that MS gained a lot more respect from his teammates than he had previously...and if he couples that with a big game at ND..which should not be that demanding of an accomplishment...keeping in mind that it will happen with still another patchwork O line in front of him..JDB could possibly sit the rest of his career at SC. IMH (and probably unqualified)O...I say it's Sanchez' job to lose right now, and the primary reasons are JDBs performances in all of our games this season combined with his inability to pull out the OSU and aclu games last season. The effort alone in the 4th qtr last week told me that MS has it.
