Apparently not every starting spot is open to competition.

Apparently not every "reporter" knows how to report...

Stafon is hurt. What part of him being hurt convinces you that he should be named the starter on the road against Oregon and warrants your assinine sarcasm??

He can play but he's not 100% - by his own admittance. It really doesn't matter who the starter is anyways. At USC the starter plays the first 1-2 plays then the rotation begins. Half the time the starter doesn't even see the most carries.

What the hell is wrong with you?!?! Just report the facts Scott. You don't need the sarcasm.

Washington continues to be a very ineffective starting running back... but is a very solid back-up.

If Johnson is 90% - 100% healthy...he should be the starter...period.

Carroll should keep throwing McKnight in there to mix it up, using Havili and throwing Bradford in there a little more (Bradford has shown glimpses of improvement when he has been on th field over the last two games.)

Nice article. Thanks.

And Tyler - take a chill pill. Scott didn't 'report' anything but facts. the titles in this blog are not printed in the newspaper.

jbs07,

Where did I say anything negative about the article itself? I was talking about Scott's sarcasm in this post (and numerous others).

I agree that a 90% Johnson should be starter from here on out but Johnson clearly said he was 80%. How does this say anything about the level of competition on the team?

Scott took that entire article with good info and distilled it down to "Apparently, not every position is open to competition" and you're ok with that. It's hack, sensationalistic journalism at best.

I said it before and will say it again. Scott is in the enviable position of covering the biggest CFB program in the country in a city without an NFL team. He could have the LA sports world in the palm of his hand but instead of covering the team like an adult would he reduces all his stories to a collection of snide comments and unfettered negativity.

If he could just cover the team straight up he would easily be one of the most sought after reporters in LA. Instead he's a joke and a hack.

I guess every reporter has to find his niche. Congrats.

One more thing,

More people get their news on the web than through newspapers. I would be willing to bet that more people read Scott's blog on a daily basis than read his articles in the Daily News.

If anything he should be a better reporter here than he is for the paper no one reads. He should never post something here that he wouldn't send to his editor.

Anyone who subscribes to teh theory that blogs still aren't real news probably also still thinks Apple is a fruit company. Join the digital age. This is the future of news and Scott is taking a huge dump all over it.

Tyler…you’re probably right about Wolf…but should anyone with a life really care so much about journalistic integrity on a blog about a college football team?

Keep it up though…I like reading your angry posts.

Ok go…now your turn to blast me…I can’t wait.

Wolfie does hit the nail on the head, although it would be more valid if Stafon were 100% healthy. But, I believe he is correctly presuming that PC will continue to start Chauncey even when Stafon is 100%. Which is only explainable by assuming that PC values seniority over productivity, and in such a case, Competition Tuesday is a sham! Of course, after he starts Chauncey all season, then he'll due something unpredictable like not play him in the Rose Bowl and give all the carries to CJ!?! Stafon is a burgeoning superstar and a viable Heisman candidate in the coming years, so regardless of who PC starts, here's hoping he feeds the ball to Stafon 80% of the time, 10% to Havili, and 5% each to McKnight and Chauncey.

I care not because it's a blog about the one LA sports team I genuinely call my own but because I hate seeing opportunity wasted. Scott's taking an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime and wasting it. When USC returns to a 5-7 (and it will happen - the main reason I don't bitch about Booty v. Sanchez) team no one will read this blog and Scott would have wasted all his access being a bitter bitch. It's sad and depressing. I'm more angry at Scott than about the actual post. He needs to start taking himself seriously...

I think people that assume that Chauncey is starting because of seniority is only saying so because they prefer to listen to Scott Wolf than the coach. Carroll has said on a number of occasions that Chauncey is the starter because of dependability. He may not have the same kind of raw talent as Stafon or McKnight, but he has far more game experience than the other two guys.

When the team is having as much trouble with the turnover ratio as they are now, it only makes sense to have someone in there that you can depend on. While agree that Stafon and McKnight are superstars in the making, I am right on board with Pete Carroll's coaching philosophy. I mean, the guy has accomplished a lot more in football than the rest of us here.
