Crowd Control
One of Pete Carroll's worst memories in the Pacific-10 Conference was a trip to Eugene, Ore., in 2001, when fans taunted the Trojans coming out of the locker room and there were some near-altercations.
He even considered bringing video cameras the following season to record any incidents with the crowd. t's been six years, but once again this week, Carroll reminded the Trojans to be prepared for Oregon fans during one of his team talks.
"The last couple games with Nebraska and Notre Dame, the fans weren't ruthless and supported their team," USC defensive end Lawrence Jackson said. "This is a college town and you expect it to be rowdy."
I hope Coach Carroll has put LoJack on notice that he should not stop and debate philosophy with any of the fans.
How can the Oregon crowd be any worse than our own supposed fans who booed a team that has won two national championships and held the NCAA streak for home wins? That was shameful. If I were an SC player, I'd appreciate getitng out of town.

If you show up with that effort by the players and that game plan by the coaches and you lose to Stanford in your own backyard you deserve some booing.

By memory, fans started booing at the half when SC was up 9-0. Though some of that booing may have been reserved for the coaching staff and that anemic goal line stand they performed on their own team. I think fans were frustrated with the lethargic play and ghastly play-calling (CW draw to the right side of the line rather than go behind All-American LT Sam Baker)
But I do have mixed feelings on the whole booing thing. On one hand, I'm all for booing when I see a lack of effort and lethargy. But when the team plays hard and loses, I'd rather cheer. Besides, it's gotta hurt recruiting when potential Trojans see how fickle the fans can be and how easily they can turn on the team. It'd be nice as a recruit to be able to go somewhere with the knowledge that your fans are with you through thick and thin.
I'm not sure there is an answer. I guess the fans will just have to cheer the team until it's time to not cheer the team. (whatever that means)
