Fish Or Cut Bait

It's time to make a decision on freshman tailback Joe McKnight. Either play him or consign to the bench for the season. Actually, it was a joke to give him two carries and decide that was it against Stanford. If he's that bad to only deserve two carries, USC made a terrible recruiting decision.
He's not Reggie Bush but with Stafon Johnson hurt, USC desperately needed something else against Stanford besides Chauncey Washington. Pete Carroll said the situations were not right for McKnight. The same thing was said the week before. Sounds like excuses worthy of a losing team.

What about Dennis?

I have to agree with you Wolf. I am so tired of the "he didn't fit into the game plan" excuse. What, only Chauncey can run a toss? Only Stafon can run the off tackle? Give me a break. The players aren't being allowed to go out there and perform. Put the ball in your playmakers hands. All this talk of the every position is open for competition is really lip flap. No one is really getting a chance. Bradford looks great in practice and doesn't get a carry. Same with CJ, and now McKnight. Why do you go out there and recruit these players if you aren't going to give them a chance. That was what the success of this program was built upon, and now, they're running away from it.

Scott, I have been waiting for some analysis from you. You are as close to what is going on with the team as anyone but a coach or player. So, what is wrong?
Are you coming out and saying that a freshman like Joe Mcknight is needed to get the offense running? Are you saying after one loss that this is a losing team? I want to hear what you have to say with a sincere analysis of the team without the "Caesar" and other sarcastic comments. Come on, bring back the old Scott and tell us something about what is going on with this football team and what you think needs to be done or what the coaches think needs to be done to straighten out this mess. Some fans, including me, value your opinion and want to hear what you have to say and not just a report of what others have to say.

I recall a team that used to take chances. Contrary to public statements, Caesar has become more about winning than the process. Why is Caesar reluctant to get McKnight involved? Has he conditioned these freshman to believe that they better not make a mistake, lest they embarrass Lord Caesar?

Finally I agree with Wolf. PC needs to give these guys a chance to cut lose and play. One or two plays is NOT NEARLY ENOUGH to prove themselves. It seems like the team/coaching staff/etc has been playing not to lose more than letting loose, having fun, and just playing the game. Why play so conservatively? Why play so close to the vest? At least try to mix it up and play the game. The players haven't looked like they're having any fun this entire year. Maybe now that the seal's broken and the team has lost, the coaching staff will rediscover the fire and zest that got SC to this point in the first place. Compare this team to some of the teams from the SEC, or OKLA, or CAl and they just don't seem to have that fire in their eyes. I don't know if it comes from QB or the coaching staff or what, but this team is way too tight (never thought I'd say it about a PC team)
They're like Cougar after he almost goes down in Top Gun:
"I'm holding on too tight.
I've lost the edge. I'm sorry, sir."

They need to get that fire back and not care if they win or lose. Stop playing/coaching not to lose, play the best players available (regardless of player loyalty) and just have FUN playing the game. If they just go out and have fun, I have no doubt they'll get a heck of a lot better.

FIGHT ON! (for real this time guys)

McKnight can play, let's give him the ball and he's a decoy when they faked a toss to the right with him in the game half the defense went after him. Evidently they saw his high school youtube video?
Lets fight on and kick some Butt like we know we can and play ball!

I agree McKnight needed to be more envolved last Sat. We were missing the threat of a guy being able to bounce outside.

Chauncy is basically a guy that is going to plow through the middle. You could see Stanford stacking the box on many plays to put the clamps on him.

Pete may need to admit he made some mistakes in this game. I have to really place the blame on the coaching staff in this game more so than Booty.

We were playing as if not to lose. We were on our heels the entire 4th qtr on defense. It was like Texas and Vince Young all over again. Except this was a kid who had never started a game before in college. I heard a few players mention during the week leading up to the game that they were really not familiar with what he does. Preparation is a must at this level. Its not excuseable to go into any game with as much stake as USC had not fully prepared. We should have learned that from the Washington game.

I agree with one of the posters above. Our guys looked tight and as if they were not having fun. I also noticed a Camera shot by the Versus network of the Stanford QB and a couple of other players chumming it on the sidelines up after one of their TDs and that was in our house.

word

I agree with Wolf!!! It must be a blue moon tonight...

Funny how you will ridicule Joe McKnight and all of his fumbles but yet get on the coaching staff for Joe's lack of playing time. What is your opinion Scott? Make up your mind please. Let us know when you ultimately decide.
