Going Deep

Or not going deep. USC's had problems this season with deep passes and it's something Coach Pete Carroll is just hoping happens soon. Especially when you consider lowly Stanford is the next opponent.
``We've got to carry out the execution from the practices to the games,'' Carroll said. ``I'm hoping we're going to make some connections.''

Do the Trojans have any speedsters anymore? How fast is Vidal?

It's not the WR's. We were effective going deep with guys like Mike Williams and Jarrett. It's more on Booty. He doesn't have any touch on those deep throws. He throws it with no air underneath so the WR's can't really run under it. More touch JD!

It's not the WR's fault. It's Booty's. We were able to throw deep to guys like Mike Williams and Jarrett who do not have great speed. Our deep game last year was below average and that's because Booty just doesn't put much touch on the ball. He throws it on a line so the WR's don't have much time to run underneath those passes. More touch/air JDB!!!

Sorry for the double post

USC498

No need to apologize, you need to post this a thousand times. I have been stating this fact for two(2)years. The only person that could catch the JDB long past was Steve Smith(SS) who ran some excellent deep CROSSING ROUTES. JDB can't hit the DEEP POST (40+) route. There isn't an ARC to his passes. Frozen ropes that are tip at the line of scrimage or bounces off WR's pads and intercepted.

I'll just bet that JDB throws plenty of them perfectly in practice, but just can't get them in games. Luckily for us, Jake Locker appears to be in the same boat, but his excuse is he's a freshamn.

So, at the risk of sounding like George Carlin, why not make him practice on about 3-4 Red Bulls? I think the difference is adrenaline, so why not? I'm just sayin...

Scott Wolf

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
