Going Deep?
Pete Carroll kept talking about Mark Sanchez's desire to throw deep passes after practice.
"He has a huge arm, he can throw a mile and wants to air it out,'' Carroll said. "He's always looking to make a big play. He is a big-minded guy. He's got to take some shots."

I like what I hear Pete! Get your QB to visualize it, execute it, then spike it in the end zone. Let the WR's rejoice. The long ball is back.
Which of course opens up the running game.
We should have a contest to come up with a cool nickname for Sanchez to pump him up. He could become "The Slinger" Sanchez. The Spiker. The Spider. The Dagger. Or The Slingshot Kid. The Wolfie Waffler. Ideas anyone?
Then again, if he sucks against 'Zona, then he's...

Well Pete if you only had guys who could get deep and actually catch the ball, then you would be on to something. Guys like DeSean Jackson and Percy Harvin would be perfect. Too bad you let them get away.

I would have to agree with USC_89. Our current starters cannot outrun their own shadows. Unless they are going to give Ronald Johnson more playing time, this will be a difficult task for Sanchez. Hope I am wrong.

One cannot but notice how quiet the MM fan club is on Sanchez’s start... they hate it but cannot come out and say it directly or they will look like anti SC fans.
They are waiting for Sanchez to fail and most of them are hoping he fails... now that's just wrong.
I hope Sanchez lights it up.
Use JoeMac in the slot more often and let him be a vertical threat (like P.Harvin).

It's great to know that Sanchez has that mindset. We need guys in the rotation who know their capabilities and believe in them. Sanchez knows what he can do, and finally is getting his chance to show it. So excited! There's nothing wrong with trying something new...

Hoping it works, he'll need much better pass protection than Booty got last week.

leo is right - we need better pass protection - no matter how fast Sanchez can run...

Suave, man. Please don't spook Mark. I have a good one here: It's Marco time. Then you guys shout in the stands: Marco, Marco! Yes, I agree with you 100% that the usual suspects/MM faithful are hoping Mark fails, what else is new? Expect at least the first quarter to be conservative so that MS gets confident and comfortable with underneath short passing routes mixed with runs and a reverse or two. Does anybody know if the shotgun is going to used? MS has to be himself and go with the flow. Being the first game I doubt that he'll have the green light to change any plays at the line. Finally let's hope that the receivers run the routes like they are supposed to. Let's hope for the best. Good luck Mark!

I think the protection was pretty solid for most of the snaps, but JDB can't scramble to save his life. Sanchez can, and we'll be seeing a few more scrambles for 1st downs now. Not a bad thing....

On the first offensive play, I suggest a play action, max protect, and hit a deep pass (Rojo? Hazelton? McKnight?) to let the defense know they cannot stuff eight in the box. The defense is going in thinking that that Sanchez will be conservative at the start. Instead, let him air it...the element of surprise.

While I still like Mustain in '08...I hope Sanchez goes out and lights up Zona for 300 yards and 4 TDs...because I really would like to see USC get a solid win...and I REALLY just want to read Door Prize's posts on Monday! Good luck to Sanchez!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
He is telling you what you want to hear! You are sick of the JDB/Kiffin 4 yard pass in the flat..so now..oh golly gee..Sanchez is all of a sudden "going to air it out" and hit on numerous long bombs! yeah! just what we wanted! Pete Carroll is a genius!!
Let's just wait and see what happens tomorrow
