More Caesar
Here's an interesting quote on the limited use of Stafon Johnson.
``He doesn’t feel 100 percent. I was disappointed he didn’t get involved more,'' USC coach Pete Carroll said. ``That happens when you rotate guys.''
And a revised look at the Stanford game when John David Booty broke his finger.
``We made a mistake with John, not knowing the situation. I wish I could have assessed that better at the time,'' Carroll said. ``Maybe we would have put Mark (Sanchez) in and played it closer to the vest.''

woulda, coulda, shoulda....
That does not sound like Pete Carroll. It will be interesting to see how and the rest of the coaching staff will adjust to the present situation. Pete has always been known at USC as the master of the in-game adjustment.
correction: It will be interesting to see how Pete and the rest of the coaching staff will adjust to the present situation.
They need to start letting their playmakers play. Not using Stafon is a crime imo.
"That happens when you rotate guys."
so quit rotating them... tell that idiot you have in the OC slot to just stick with one guy, at least for a whole series. if someone whacks off 25-45 yards and signals the need some O2, that's one thing, but this "your name came up on the duty roster" thing is killing us and them.
"Maybe we would have put Mark (Sanchez) in and played it closer to the vest."
maybe you should have put him in and played to win? just a thought..... BTW, since we're on the subject, screw the vest, let it all hang out: we'd rather try real hard and lose big, than fiddle fart around and lose small....
at least we can say we tried.
Apology is the first word out of my mouth to you Mr. uscmike. I sincerely mean that. I am glad the cat is out the bag. Does PC think that this revelation make him anymore creditable? Would those statements put PC in the hot seat since the expectations are so high? You guys judge...
Should I infer that he did NOT have any trust in Mark Sánchez? Should I infer that the two loses are the result of poor coaching? In view of those confessions(ouch, pardon me being Catholic!) will Mark start against OR ST? Most of you know that a broken(fractured?) finger does NOT heal in a month. Hell, my middle fingers are still crooked from playing basketball in my younger days!
¡Viva Sánchez!
Don't run Havili in crucial situations (6.9 avg./22 recp.), give it to Johnson (he's not fully healed...in his own words), give it to McKnight, he's fumbled several times (after eight games, has almost identical carries/catches as Bush did in 2003), Gable (13 carries/143 yards) is out for the season. Give it to Bradford, he's earned it (14 carries/19yards). Unless he is doing great in practice, I'm missing something. Some bragged about all the RB's USC had, now some say they wasted scholarships on RB's. Seems like many bloggers throw shit at the wall, to see what sticks. Tough crowd, even for "Rickles" to handle. Just who should the coaches give the ball to? Oh yea! You already answered that one. Relax and enjoy the Trojans the next five games...lots of good football left in them. And, worry about next year, next year!
Caesar is a big whining cry baby! Waaaaaaaaaaa! If your players didn't hold or commit penalties, the team wouldn't have plays nullified!
Agree with USCmike that PC has always been great at adjustments...defensively. But, doesn't it seem like we have made NO halftime adjustments all year on offense? Is our offensive scheme so complex that we choose not to tinker with it during the game? Why couldn't we ascertain that the Ducks had some kind of shadow defense on Freddie D and make mid-game adjustments to get him open? We did start airing it out to Patrick and Vidal, but it was too late. The run game never got on track in the first half, and I didn't see ANY changes made to improve it in the 2nd half. Of course, give the Ducks some credit.
Having thought about it, PC/Sark have an offense that works great for non-conference opponents - Michigan Rose Bowl, perfect example - but it has become too familiar/predictable to the elite coaching staffs of the Pac-10. Think about the Pac-10 coaches....Belotti, Riley, Erickson, Willingham, Tedford....quite a murderer's row of smart coaches. However, to give Sark a break, he could never have foreseen that the O-line would be decimated by injury, and we would lose Stafon, CJ and Moody to injury and transfer - almost our entire 2006 RB class. So, how much can he tinker with the offense mid-season? He can't overhaul it mid-season, but certainly he could make smarter adjustments mid-season and mid-game, right? I would love to be a fly on the wall in those Offense meets....PC, Sark, Morton, Ruehl, McNair....what goes on in those meetings? Wolfie, I know you say you don't read comments, but if you do, what is the dynamic like between these guys? Morton helped the Saints become the NFC offensive leaders last year.....what is his level of influence? I've never even seen an interview with the guy. I'll ask that question in this week's forum.
Does anyone else see what I see? Stafon Johnson is a great running back, and so is Joe McKnight. Chauncey and Desmond Reed shouldn't get any carries during a game if SC is really serious about winning!
