Since 2003 Carroll has a stellar record against "spread-option" offenses. It is a higher risk offense, and on average, it takes more plays to move the ball into scoring position. Higher risk + more plays= more turnovers.

Does it matter? Oregon will not run the ball effectively, forcing Dixon to beat them. I doubt he can

Don't they have to adjust the defense for every opponent?

I think they might load the box forcing Dix to throw. Secondly a speedy spy will be assigned to blitz Dix.

Well just4sc...Oregon last year for one. Cal ran elements of it too and we shut that down.

Bill and the other "Bruins" lack the testicular fortitude (or testicular anything for that matter) to make quality comments on this board.

That said, UCLA has had two of the worst losses I have ever seen this year. Losing 44-6 to a bad Utah team and then to winless Notre Dame team that couldn't find the endzone if you drew them a map are just shameful to the city of Los Angeles. (I'm not going to even mention the Stanford debacle. It didn't happen and I'm not going to argue about it)

But as much as us Trojan fans like to see those ursine creatures from across the city lose, we all hope they win "just enough" to keep Capt. Karl Dorrell as the head coach. Who knows what they'd do if Tedford, Pelini, or Rich Rodriquez was helming the Bruins' ship.

38-3: Now that's just silly! But Oregon may have to score at least that much to win. Oregon's much improved at hiding the ball in the option this year and I expect they will have better success this time. The guys have really matured in this offence and Kelly has been a huge part of that process. I'm just saying: don't be surprised when Stewart runs for 100+.

The key to stopping the "hiding the ball" part of the option may be for Rey-Rey to hit Dixon on every play whether he has the ball or not. If you hit a skinny guy like that enough (maybe Stewart goes for an extra couple of yards each time) they'll stop running the old hidden ball trick or Dixon will be watching from the sideline.
The highlights of the UW game showed the DE, outside linebackers, and corners biting on the wrong guy nearly every play. If SC goes for the wrong man every play, we'll be in trouble.
To make sure they don't, PC should just have the baddest man in the area hit Dixon on every play. The first quarter may prove to be fruitful for the Ducks, but I guarantee they won't keep it up all game.

Sureshot32 has the right idea: Don't worry about who *really* has the ball. Knock down everyone whether they have it or not.

THE game plan to control the Duck offense is simple: USC runs the ball down their throats all day long, and keep Dixon, Stewart, etc. off the field.

The Oregon defense is giving up 4.0 ypc and 143 ypg on the ground. If we can rush for 150+, we will control the clock, keep the Duck offense on the sideline, and the crowd quiet. Pound them early and often with Stefan, Havili, Chauncey and (yes) Bradford, and then let McKnight run wild in the 4th Q. Mix in some play action, as well, to keep them honest.

We do this every year !! Cal is THE TEAM , Oregon is the trap, ASU is waiting to dominate , and every year we beat them all .......whats new ??
