Let's be clear, this is not an ``excuse'' for losing. It just never came up when USC won every game.

How come the official web site does not do the ``explanations?'' By the way, Oregon did only get flagged for only one penalty, but two other Duck penalties were declined.

Not neccessarily a comment related to this thread as much as it is related to the general state of boorish "fan" commentary.

Remind me how Howard Jones and John McKay never lost a game. Or how we're better off without the current coaching staff because of all the great things that happened before Pete arrived.

Seriously people, get some perspective and remember what it means to Fight On!

It's just nature's way of leveling the playing field...especially on the road. Bring the big dog down.

Wolfie old boy...

That's a good website. I have been on there lots...whoever made it has talent.

Maybe we shouldn't bother them...

I guess this is the state of USC football 2007: Wolf ripping on some other website, PC yelling Sark, who in turn degrades Sanchez, who in turn throws out the du jour excuse about "wait until next year"

Fat...Pat "golden" ruehl says "the Offensive line has to get better" after the stanford D line beat their asses up and down the field, and finally we can't even make 1 punt without a penalty..

Sound like Larry, Curly and Moe? How about Manny, Moe and Jack the Pep boys?

We are a laughingstock folks...deal with it

But if you think this is bad...try the ND boards. All the sunshine pumpers on here who think I am being "negative" ought to stroll over there and read some of the posts.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

They are making plans for what to do Saturday if they lose to Navy..

a real dejected crowd...

They don't even bother to rip on USC anymore.

What is the point of this?

THERE IS 1 COACHING STAFF IN THE USA THAT IS MORE RETARDED THAT PETE CARROLL & CO

hey bruce, your right, John McKay lost games..

umm

EXCEPT FOR 1972 YOU MORON

12-0

Jesus H Christ on a popsicle stick I am so sick of the "eternal optimists" on here

So the Patriots should give up on their undefeated year this year?

And the colts too?

LIKE MR. HAND SAID "ARE YOU ALL ON DOPE??"

Isn't that the point of every game? To win?

What the fedge is the point of playing a season if we are going to accept multiple losses?

WHY THE HELL DON'T WE BECOME PURDUE THEN?? OR MICHIGAN ST.?

"yeah 7-4..that's fine..whatever.."

Whoever "bruce" is he makes me want to vomit...I am so sick of hearing "tow the company line...remember Paul Hackett"

I have resisted this excuse for years; especially against Stanford: you figure if those guys do anything well on the field it would be to follow directions. And for years I have been suspect of the PAC10 being headquartered in Cal's backyard where anyone with a blue and gold rugby shirt and a drinking problem is waved in as a legacy. But when we are getting facemask calls while on offense or holding calls where the umpire does not bother to mention the number of the player that commited the foul, I think it becomes fairly obvious.

USC1966 Author Profile Page said:

blazin that's a good point..but whenever you are the big dog in the yard..the refs are always going to call more on you...look it up

sucks but comes with the game

right now we need to stop worrying about excuse making and penalties..excuses are like asshol*s everyone has one...

I don't think Pete is making excuses. USC has a lot to lose by being perceived as a declining program right now. Factors like injuries, unfair penalties, etc. should be emphasized if relevant. Many of the talking heads on ESPN have been citing injuries as a reason for USC's slippage.
Way better than the coaching sucks or talent is absent.

All the great NBA coaches work the referees when they perceive calls are lopsidedly against their teams. Once again PC is ahead of the game. The holding call on Baker was huge last game. What close calls are coming vs. Cal and ASU on the road?

One theory is that teams bring their "A" game against SC, and part of bringing your "A" game as the underdog is understanding you have to try and play mistake-free football. To me, this stat reflects the reality that every week SC will face the best effort of the season from the opponent.

SC73Tom said:

One advantage of TIVOing the games is being able to go back again and again to the same play and check penalties. Sometimes they are good calls, and sometimes they are totally bogus. LJ has been called for encroachment a couple of times this year when he just came off the ball so fast the official couldn't believe it so he threw his flag. Bogus calls, and there are others. But, I agree with PC; when you're at the top you have to deal with it.

BTW: How would you like Stoopes (AZ) on the sideline? Incredible cry-baby! I can't believe they actually pay that guy to do that!

Hey 1966 - My comments were directed at exactly like people like you. You act like SC never lost a game until Pete Carroll "really screwed things up."

When your comments are actually coherent, you whine and cry like a little girl who dropped her sucker. In case you missed it, Pete has an undefeated season too and he did it far less time you moron. Please, please please go root for ucla or some other team that always whines and cries because clearly you do not understand Fight On and what it means to be a Trojan.

Seriously 1966...as an ex-college athlete, you're the type of fan that made me sick to my stomach...you're the fan that will walk around pounding your chest that we won and gloat about it, and then when the team doesn't allow you to do that week in and week out, you'll be first one to jump off the bandwagon and throw the team under the bus with the rest of the wannabe monday morning qb's. I can understand constructive criticism, but all you do is cry and moan. How many teams can say they've had a run like SC has the past few years??

Enough of the bandwagoners. 1966 If you approach life in general this way you must be a very frustrated individual. It's all ups and downs. You're just like Scott - wouldn't want you on my team if the going got tough. You'd be gone.
