How quickly have things changed?
"No one's afraid of the big bad wolf anymore,'' a USC coach said this week.

Since when did it ever become realistic to win every game possible. Teams are beating us after losing 4-5+ years in a row. Enjoy the PC era while we have him, because when hes gone, I can only imagine what Wolf's anti-SC journalism will be like . Frightening.

Who cares if teams are afraid of you? Just beat them. I'd rather be a 12-0 team that nobody fears than a 9-3 team that others shudder to play.

Actually, teams tend to play us better and game plan us better than they do other teams. Coaches break down more film, stay later, etc.
So SC is both a team that people fear and will always be that team. Teams that run the table and that do not garner fear and respect do not exist on any level. The scariest part of our season is that we have played like complete garbage in just about every game (ND and Neb games excepted)and we have won 75% of them. If this team ever gels, they could be very good. We have seen flashes of it: Rojo, Vidal, Joe, Stafon, O'Dowd, sometimes the defense.

I don't like losing, but I can accept it and move on. As much as I pretend otherwise, SC football does not govern my behavior nor my outlook on life. I do however, live it every satuday from Sep - Dec and usually a day in Jan..

Fight on!

Don't tell that to the NE Patriots right now

:o))

It's possible, and very possible for a team with the talent USC has.

These guys should be able to beat Stanford by themselves

Nothing I hate more than accepting mediocrity

Sure, let's just accept an 9-3 or 8-4 year every year..

Unfortunately that's what we are going to get. PC is way too conservative and has been since Leinart/Bush left. And he won't change, due to his ego. He thinks he knows best. Nothing will change saturday, or next saturday, or next year.

You paint a bleak picture , 1966.

Sounds like USC should consolidate the gains Caesar has made, part ways now, and search for a successor that can take the Trojans to the next level.

I think everyone would like to see Pete Carroll just get rid of the monster ego and hire some competent people. We'll always have the best talent and we'll always have the biggest market. Like the Yankees we have every reason to expect to win or compete to win a NC each year. PC ain't Torre. PC put the best around him, fired them and put our program in jeopardy like its HIS. That doesn't fly here. There is still time but he better really evaluate where he is and what's expected. And not to spread blame but Garrett should have had this talk with him when the whole Chow/PC thing was so known there was a daily blow by blow in the Daily Trojan.

Let's be real here, USC has a monster machine to bring in the talent like no other. We have an Olympic venue and we're in the media capital of the world and the 2nd largest city (NYC has two teams and 3 or 4 traditional CFB teams including ND) and there isn't a pro team. We've got the richest recruiting ground of both athletes and coached up players. The school itself has everything you could want in terms of accessibility campus beauty, quality of education. We don't NEED PC but it would be good to have him here if he realizes where he is.

Timmay-

So what was wrong with USC before PC arrived? With all the trappings of success, why couldn't Smith, JR2, or Hackett accomplish anything close to Caesar's record?

I remember the days of stomaching loss after loss on the way to the holiday season.

Any thought of a Champonship was usually over by September or early October and the Rose Bowl was mathematically impossible well before Halloween. Losses at the hands of ND and UCLA every damn year.

USC alumni and All-American QB Pat Haden even saying the Trojans could NEVER win like the good old days due to schollie limits and parity.

DON'T YOU REMEMBER!

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
