On The Other Hand
There are concerns:
``Hopefully, at the halfway mark we would know what we were doing and here we are playing with a backup quarterback,’’ USC coach Pete Carroll said. ``The normal momentum at the halfway mark is not there.
``Things happen. Everybody is losing. We better get some guys healthy to have the strength we need.’'

Comments
Even the irrepressibly optimistic Carroll is worried. It seems that this is just one of those years where the injury-bug will not abate.
Some fans seem to think the problem is a lack of emotion, of fire. But in the words of the acerbic John McKay, "My wife has a lot of emotion, and and she can't play football worth a darn."
Emotion might help in the first quarter, but in the fourth it comes down to character and talent. And let's face it, much of SC's talent is in the infirmary.

Last year was supposed to be a rebuilding year and, even with 2 losses, USC won the Pac 10 and destroyed a "legitimate" national title contender in the Rose Bowl. This was supposed to be the year they contended for a national championship...so go figure. Strange things happen, and in the scheme of this excessively bizarre college football season, USC having a down year is just a blip on the radar.
