Penalty Problems

| | Comments (7) |

USC coach Pete Carroll said he spoke to Pac-10 supervisor of officials David Cutaia today about the fact Trojan opponents rank 10th in penalties the past four seasons.
``He had no explanation,'' Carroll said.
Cutaia was a referee before this season (remember he was suspended for a game after the infamous Oregon-Oklahoma game) so maybe he's one of the reasons USC opponents never got called for penalties.

yeah sureshot 32 I am just so sick of what I have seen since the beggining of that Texas game 2005 NC

we lost that game because of our (PC) arrogance. We thought our athletes were so good we didn't need to shadow Vince Young our defense could handle it.

OOOPS

Since that time our offense has been vanilla as possible. PC does not trust the QB's or the RB's and will not open up the playbook, and so the other team laughs and brings their safeties up and cuts off our running/short passing game.

Been the same thing since the first game of 2006.

We don't scare anyone, our offense is predictable as hell, and the coaching staff won't change it.

I am sick of dealing with this situation and the asswipes who keep posting "stop being negative remember Paul Hackett!" and the other sunshine pumpers who want us to follow the status quo

until PC wakes up and smells the coffee and realizes that Leinart/Bush are gone, it's time to move on and open up the playbook we are looking at 7-4 seasons.

SC has traditionally received more penalties than its opponents, and one reason is that they play a more aggressive style, a more innovative style, of ball, which is probably going to produce more holding type penalties

It has been a travesty. Has there ever been a holding call against Sedrick Ellis' opponents. Did you see Sed's jersey after the game? The four was nearly ripped off his jersey in the back, yet not one single holding call. Sed is held at least 10 times per game. On Oregon's first punt return, there was a clear block in the back right in front of the side judge and no flag. We have been getting jobbed for four years.

So the supervisor of officials in the Pac-10 was an incompetent referee. Great! And the guy has "no idea" why the Trojans are penalized so much... Who makes these personnel decisions!?!

Penalties this year have been the backbreakers. Seems whenever we have a good series going, then wham, a stupid penalty. Not to say, however, that a good number of the calls are bad, and certainly far fewer are called on opponents. I can't believe that our D-line was as porous, or slow as it has looked at times without serious incidents of holding. Our guys are good. Too many boneheaded late hits, and blocks on special teams. Add this to the careless fumbles and we lose!

Also: Will someone please teach our guys how to tackle? They act like it's practice and they are afraid to hit and hold on.
