QB Derby

USC coach Pete Carroll said he might make a quicker decision this week about who starts at quarterback because he is becoming more familiar with the way John David Booty's broken finger responds.
``We’ve got to see what’s different as John works to prepare,’’ Carroll said. ``We’ve got a better sense now how to handle it. We might decide sooner than last week.
``We’ll look at it every possible way,’’ he said. ``Practice reps, game reps. It could be an easy decision either way.’’

SANCHEZ!!! Enough said! You want leadership? He showed it to us this Weekend.

I think the "easy decision" is to start Sanchez. It's a no-brainer, really.

Booty is not losing his job due to injury; blame it on Oregon State; UCLA; Stanford; Idaho; Washington;

You fanatics make me sick! All of a sudden, the Sanchez bashers are his biggest supporters? You are all the same idiots who said that Mark was "as good as gone" right after his lousy scrimage and after Mitch announced his transfer to USC. Make up your f***ing minds!

If Pete follows his mandate of how competition dictates who plays, then Sanchez will play.

He has performed well, has the offense playing good and has the fire that Booty lacks.

I love JD, i think he is a good QB, but Sanchez has the momentum and passion to win these tough games.

LordTrojan:
Amen. I also hope you know that I am as constant as the biggest K around in any equation. Pardon my humble poetry! BTW did you read about Joe Theisman whispering on Mark's ear congratulating him? NOT bad for my Chicano idol. Caution:
Leave that alone, thank you! If you mess with that you will walk into a heavily MINED field, literally. That is "thee" "lawH"!
Yeah, LT it seems that some of the usual suspects have jumped ship. I'd just look at them and say thanks BUT MARíA asked me to dance with her!
LT:
A friendly advice be careful with your double meaning cliché's.
It's showtime, it's Mark time!
¡Viva Sánchez!
Thank you

Trojan_JP:
I love your thread man, touché! You certainly got me. It is NOT a big secret that I am Latino. In fact my handle on the CB radio waves is Latin Lover!
The point is that your romantic words such as "passion and momentum" rock describing Sánchez. I mean they rock, baby!
It's showtime, it's Mark time!
¡Viva Sánchez!

Concur with the "competition" aspect. NOW, it's Sanchez'"job to lose" according to PC's stated philosophy. The "C" word is the topic I've personally harped on from the beginning. I hope PC continues this trend. The only negative I feel with this thread is the friggin continued references to race.

goliathtrojan:
This is FREE country which I invested a lot of my life to defend therefore I have two damn words for you SHUT-UP! Furthermore you are one of those MM faithful/usual suspect. ALL of a sudden you are a reincarnated hypocritical Messiah that jumped ship. ARE we Mark Sánchez' fans supposed to say thank you to you, moronic idiot? Hell NO. Please? I cautioned do NOT walk into my mined field. You did, you set-up a booby trap and you deserve the shrapnel cuts on your pretty thin skin, little boy. I have addressed you directly like a man. Be a man(?) and address me directly NOT like an anonymous cowardly jerk hiding behind a keyboard.

goliathtrojan:
What are the "friggin continued references to race"? I said Mark Sánchez is my Chicano idol. What in the hell is wrong with that you delicate witch? How in the damn hell is that racially inflammatory? If you are going to respond address it to me, OK anonymous boy?
Thank you

Hey DP:

I think that "continued references to race" include both positive and negative comments about someone's race. Both can be divisive. Please let me explain.

I hope we all agree that negative comments about race has no place on this blog (or elsewere). The prime example was the loathsome bashing of Sanchez on this blog because of his race. It is plain wrong. You were right to be upset about such comments. We should support our Trojans, regardless of race, right?

However, please realize that when someone make positive comments about one's race, it too could invoke a negative reaction from others who are not part of that race. Even though we know you are cheering for your "Chicano Idol" (your words), other people may take offense that you are praising him because of his race.

Does anyone else on this blog praise the African-American players solely because of their race? The same question goes for any other race, including Caucasions. I don't recall any.

I realize that there are not too many starting QBs of Latino descent in D-I football. But anytime you bring race into the discussion, it is bound to invoke a critical or divisive response. Sanchez has done very well at QB - I hope he starts at Oregon; but his race should be irrelevant.

Let's leave the race out of the discussion, and praise the player, not the race. Anyway, those are my two cents.

FIGHT ON!!!

uscmike...nice words but with Door Prize..who used to be called El Capitan...the RACE issue is his only real interest.

DP...I only respond to you this singular time because as usual, you are dead wrong! Look back to every post I've ever made here. Never have I been a supporter of any one QB over he other! I've harped on the COMPETITION aspect only!
The bilge water that you've spewed above is just that.

Goliathtrojan
BTW...41 years of federal service (half in the military) definitely counts as a significant portion of my life spent defending my country. Thanks for your service also.

pete's leaving the sanchez door open and he's going to walk right thru it in a few days and start Monster Mark...

uscmike:
I appreciate your input. I also understand exactly what you're trying to say. If my words or praise had been in the Imus mode then hey blast me. They weren't am I looking for approval or compliments, NO. Let me play Rhett Butler(Gone With The Wind) Frankly I don't give a damn. Mike with ALL due respect that is NOT directed at you in any way. Let me go a little bit to an extreme. Had I said if you don't have blue eyes and blond hair you are NOT invited to my party. That is definitely racially inflammatory. BTW there is only one blogger in this forum that knows my specific Hispanic heritage. I am NOT Chicano and yes I am Latino! Let me throw another one. Recently retired Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sánchez is also Chicano. To the best of my knowledge Mark and General Sánchez are NOT related. So I am going to add more fuel to the fire. Here are some of favorite Latinos Rita Moreno, Jose Ferrer, Miguel Ferrer, Orlando Cepeda, deceased(D)USMC Lt. Gen. Pedro Del Valle, (D)Admiral Horacio Rivero-the only Puertorican flag officer to reach the four stars rank and yes Roberto Clemente.
My best friends while I was in the Marine Corps included three blacks, a Chicano from San Jose and a Jewish Rabbi from NY city.
Mike I love smooth jazz, specifically the sax music. This statement if I am NOT careful would be construed as racially sensitive or even inflammatory. There are more black sax players than White. Statistically I could be wrong about that. I might be 50:50. There are only a few Latin sax players. Anyway Boney James and Marion Meadows are my favorite sax players.
It appears that I am favoring Mark over other players. It is NOT true. SW posted a thread about an USC player complaining to his parents about lack of playing time. Somebody said Vidal Hazelton. That somebody picked the wrong player at the wrong time for the wrong reason, WHY? VH is one of my USC favorite players. Furthermore as I stated on my rebuttal I followed VH's recruiting trail very closely. I love big Rey who a Trojan friend of mine and a former LB says he is the next Junior Seau. I have a question for the MS haters/usual suspects. Besides being Chicano are you guys jealous because he is tall and good looking? He also plays QB for the USC Trojans! Thanks.
¡It's showtime, it's Mark time!
¡Viva Sánchez!

You people are all crazy!

Sanchez had a poor game against a bad Arizona team, then a good game against a TERRIBLE Notre Dame team! How does that make him the de facto starter for the rest of the season?

Booty has experience in big games in noisy stadiums. I'll admit I like Sanchez' ability to scramble, and his stronger arm, but I think JDB is still a good QB. I think his receivers should take as much blame for his average play as he should.

I think I'd actually like to see a little QB rotation - keep the defense on their heels by presenting different looks with the differnt QB's. I know PC doesn't do this, but it might be a nice new wrinkle.

telliot647:
JDB with a much healthier OL threw 4 INT's against Stanford at the LA Coliseum>88,000+. Is that stadium noisy enough for you? A lot of them booed JDB mercilessly. Here's another tidbit, JDB had 2 INT's against WA, hello? DUH? Get your facts straight before you sputter BS garbage, thank you.
¡It's showtime, it's Mark's time!
¡Viva Sánchez!
