I prefer to see Mark Sanchez in there. He brings fire and energy to the position and the team. Booty on the other hand brings a plodding, methodical, and uninspiring lack of fire to the table.
However, I will grudgingly understand if Pete plays Booty since he is a 5th year senior and has certainly earned PT through hard work. If Pete really does want best man out there though, he'll be quick to reinsert Sanchez back into the lineup as soon as JDB starts chucking it to the wrong team or falling down when the Beavers DE's start breathing down his neck.

Mark Sanchez is good. He brings a lot of intensity.
JDB, ehhh. He is too conservative. Sanchez isn't afraid to scramble to get a few yards.
Although, Sanchez was BOOTY at the Oregon game.
At this point, i don't care who they put in. Like I said earlier, they can put in the young freshman, Aaron Corp.

I agree with you sureshot.
The only possible positive to JDB being out there is that Sark HOPEFULLY will open the playbook more and we'll see some stuff that maybe MS wasnt comfortable with yet. Which BEGS the question---MS has been in the program 2.5 years now-WHY ISNT HE "ready" to step in and play according the original gameplans?? What kind of development program does Sark and PC have him on>? Is it a 4-year learning process and then finally on your fifth we hand you the reins??? PC agreed on 710 to being outcoached a few times this year, yet I believe hes been outcoached more than twice this year-he has just had better luck and luckily has better athletes to play with than his counterparts.
I dont know if a 90% JDB is better than a 100% MS..heck im not sure a 100% JDB is better than MS. Lets hope someone smarter than me makes a great decision on saturday and whoever plays actually MOVES the offense atleast 10.2 yards (forward) each possession.
Hey Scott, shouldn't we have a poll this week on how many tipped passes JDB will have against Oregon St?

Booty ... he's more experienced and Stanford performance due to broken finger. One more loss though and you might as well go with Sanchez to build for next year. Either way, Sarkisian needs to air it out.

Booty's batted down pass at the end of last year's loss against Oregon St. is still burning in my memory. Sanchez isn't mistake free, but he is still my choice.

Sark was quoted in the paper today about Sanchez: "He's battled. Obviously, he's not made some of the best decisions that we'd like him to make, but he's a competitive kid, and he gives us what he's got."
"Gives us what he's got?" Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement. And now that we know the results, don't we wish Booty had given it a go against Oregon.

Normally, a starter does note lose his position because of an injury. The exception is if the replacement plays "lights out" (Lou Gehrig comes to mind). Unfortunately, Sanchez did not play "lights out" ... other than the last interception against Oregon was lights out for USC. Booty get the nod.
However, I still think Sanchez is much better at avoiding the sack, and will actually run to get a first down. As long as the line can protect, then Booty is the man. But if our QB has to scramble all day, Sanchez is better suited.
Now if we could only get a consistent running game....

Gotta be Booty. I like Sanchez and am hopeful for the future. The last touchdown drive (no huddle) was great. Just wish the very last drive was like that. But Sanchez still keeps making mistakes.
I think if you throw out the Stanford game - Booty didnt start making a lot of bad plays until he broke his finger, Booty hasn't been having a horrible season. I just think you gotta make sure Booty is good to go (g-2-g).
I echo uscmike too, more important than anything, get the ball moving on the ground. Can we please convert on fourth down, or at least fourth and short, unacceptable.

This is a moot question since Pete has already announced that Booty is back as the starter and will remain so until the end of the season. After the horrendous performance Sanchez put on against Oregon, proving he is a turnover liability, even Mike McDonald will be an improvement.
Sanchez has now been benched permanently. Not just for this year, but with Mustain coming in, it's over for Sanchez. Even Sark said that Sanchez does a lot of stupid things that he and Pete wishes he didn't do. I've never heard either Pete or Sark criticize a QB so openly to the media before as they have done with Sanchez these past three weeks, so I'll take their word over the peanut gallery.
I'm glad Booty is back and hope to never see Sanchez on the field again.
Fight on!

Sanchez had his chances and did anything but impress. Sanchez simply can't read defenses and has no accuracy. So I'm going to go with Booty.

Sanchez. The guy on ESPN said it best......JDB was the better fit last year because with Jarrett and Stevie S, we only needed an efficient distributor to be successful. This year, with inconsistent/injured O-line and RBs and developing WRs, we need a playmaker much more than a distributor. Sanchez is a playmaker.
Regrettably, I predict 4 sacks for Booty for -45 yards, 4 batted down passes, 1 fumble, 1 pick, and 17 points or less. Since the NC is out of the question, keep the young guy in there to build for next season. And, with his mobility, Sanchez DOES give us the best chance to beat OSU. But, the point is moot anyway, and I hope I am wrong about Booty, and I'll be cheering for him enthusiastically regardless.

Booty is a good, but not great, quarterback. Sanchez is simply dreadful. If we rely on the running game, Sanchez is serviceable, but so is every other quarterback on the roster. I wouldn't trust Sanchez to throw the ball under any circumstances.
So I have to cast my ballot for Booty; not because he's so great, but because he's the better of two very flawed quarterbacks.

Does anyone need to remind JDB that Org St's D is pretty quick and gets to the QB faster than say, Stanford did, so he might want to get his happy feet going long before he used to......
Booty in a 3 step drop-wait...he didnt make it to the third step! SACKED again! I have the perfect solution to our problem--the better decision making of JDB and the gutty leadership and athleticism of Sanchez--We will call him- Boochez. I want Boochez to start.

Sanchez makes the most horrible decisions, is too slow, and can't read progressions. Booty is a much better decision maker and is far more accurate when it comes to passes. The 4 INTs against Stanford could be attributed to a broken finger. What could Sanchez's game losing INTs against Oregon State be attributed to?
My vote: JD Booty.

Trojan in Santa Barbara basically embodies the anti-Mark Sanchez culture that's alive and well out here on the world wide web. For months I've suspected that MS was a better qb than Booty but I've had to read stuff like "by all accounts MM is the most respected man to ever grace Heritage Hall" and "MS is totally slow and lacks mobility" and "MS can't make reads and is too stupid for the position" and "blah-blah night stalker blah-blah" But after watching Mark Sanchez play in actual games (I don't live in the area and consequently can't go to practice) I've found out that all that talk was pure bull$hit. Sanchez isn't slow, he doesn't lack the confidence of the team, and he doesn't lack the intelligence to make the correct reads. All the evidence I've seen points to the contrary.
I've seen a guy who shows a lot of guts on the field. A guy who shows emotion and gets his team fired up. A guy who can out scramble any of the past three quarterbacks we've had (not saying he's better, just a better runner). A guy who put together more pump fakes in three games than JDB has in his entire career.
That game against Oregon wasn't lost because of Sanchez, and anyone who tells you so needs to check himself. No, he didn't play Heisman worthy ball on Saturday, but it certainly wasn't Mark Sanchez who lost the game. So all of you who rip Sanchez because you don't like him (SAEinNY, Santa Barbara, Cinema come to mind) give me a break! After watching Sanchez with my own eyes and seeing what he can actually do, I'm absolutely convinced that your assessment of Sanchez is wholly and completely biased.
I'm down for whoever SC can put out there and give us the best shot of winning, but I can't sit idly by as people continue to rip what I consider to be the best available quarterback on the roster. It's unethical and ridiculous.
If you want Booty to start, then good, by all means you're entitled to your opinion, but please don't make up BS stories about how bad Sanchez is, because it's just not true.
Thank you for letting me vent.
Fight on!

Well said, Sureshot. Does anyone even remember that Booty had INTs returned for TDs in back to back games against UW AND Stanford. Please don't tell me that the hurt finger caused the INT against Stanford. I just don't buy into the argument that Booty makes better decisions. With his incredible amount of "seasoning", he is still prone to poor decision-making and sack-taking.

Someone posted "Sanchez back into the lineup as soon as JDB starts chucking it to the wrong team."
What, like Sanchez did at Oregon. Those two picks were horrible. He had McCoy for the first down but woefully underthrew him. The second pick was an amped up gunslinger just trying to get it done, therefore playing with emotion instead of smarts.
Booty was fine against Washington until his O-line
crumpled with injuries. Against Stanford he had to deal with the injured O-line and his finger...As long as our playcalling improves, Booty should be the guy. No question.

jesus tap dancing christ what difference does it make?
That's like asking: Who is a better captain for the Titanic?
Both of them can throw the 4 yard passes to VH or PT we call all game, and the 1 attempt at a long pass per game we always try with Ronald Johnson.
With the play calling we got what the F difference does it make who is QB?
Put bozo the clown in there won't make any difference

If Sanchez beats Oregon, then he starts, no doubt. Very exciting to see a QB in only his 3rd start single handedly almost bring SC back vs a very good Oregon team who had been stuffing the run all day. Even w/ the questionable play calling, he was pretty close. Not sure anyone can say, he doesn't do well w/ progressions. What does that even mean? Sounds like the Vince Young comments about how stupid he was. Bottom line is does he get the job done. Can't wait till he becomes full time starter. Never seen MM play, so its hard to comment there.
Nevertheless, Booty should get the start because he's a senior and deserves a shot to regain his position after injury. Fight on!

Booty. period.
In addition to the obvious mistakes (two horrid interceptions), Sanchez broke early from the pocket multiple times, ignoring mid to short range receivers that were coming open.
On the last interception, he was supposed to be throwing downfield to post patterns on either sideline, but he locked on to TRIPLE COVERED Fred Davis... yeesh.
One thing about Booty, he rarely made mistakes like that. Biggest knock on him (until Stan-brokefinger-ford) was batted balls.

1966, you are a negative SOB, but I echo Lawyer, the "Captain of the Titanic" line busted me up.
I really, really believe that if Sanchez had pulled it out against UO, Pete would have kept him in. The "lost job to injury" spin was just that, spin. Booty threw 4 picks against Stanford, had 2 INTs returned for TDs in back to back games, looked like a lost child against UCLA, misses all deep passes by 5 yard overthrows, falls down untouched at the first sign of a heavy pass rush, led us to the worst loss in the history of college fball, and a 2-2 record in his last 4 Pac-10 games. I really respect the kid, and wish him the best of luck. Pete used the injury, IMO, to see if Sanchez could do better as well as to prep a QB for next season. With the 2nd loss of the season, I am not surprised that Pete is making the easy decision by returning to the 5th year senior to finish out this underachieving season. But, Sanchez has more skill and potential, and if he is not developed enough to earn the starting job after 3 years in the program, then I can only blame the coaching staff. But, as 1966 alluded, with our inconsistent/injured O-line, over-rotated no identity running game, undeveloped WRs, and predictable O-scheme, it is a bit like captaining the Titanic. Honestly, which QB to play is far down the list of problems to address on O. But, if Booty gets sacked 3 times with 1 pick, and we have less than 10 points at the half against the Beavers, I sincerely hope Pete/Sark will be open to bringing in the gunslinger to try to make something happen.

sureshot32, uscmike and trojanman:
You guys have pretty much accounted for Mark's intangibles and leadership. JDB played in five games and Mark three. Mark brought the best out of turner and Hazelton. JDB in five could NOT do that in five games with a much better OL. Statistically JDB's edge over Mark is practically marginal. PC's words during the press conference regarding Mark:
"marvelous job". I am NOT going waste my time with the usual suspects/Mark haters.
Thank you

i say start Booty, but only because he needs to more adequately demonstrate his pi$$ poor ability under pressure to those who refuse to acknowledge it.
besides, we might get lucky and the OSU defense will take him out for the rest of the season.
now if only we could get them to do the same with Sarkesian....... %-)

Booty is the only legitimate option for this year. Sanchez just stinks. I knew we were in trouble with Sanchez when both Pete and Sark called him out after games, saying that he does a lot of things they did not want him to do, always resulting in turnovers. It's the only time I have ever heard either of them publicly call out a player after a game. Sanchez hurt his future chances with the games he played, with both Pete and Sark saying that they cannot open up the playbook him, so they have to rely more on a conservative run-oriented gameplan.
So, yes, it's Booty for me. And Pete made it official this week.
