Quarterback Status
USC coach Pete Carroll said tonight he would not consider replacing John David Booty with Mark Sanchez this week, unless Booty's broken finger prevents him from playing.
``I'm not doing that,'' he said regarding a change. ``That's not what I would be thinking. It's not a one-guy deal. It isn't just because of the thrower (that we had four interceptions). There's a lot of things we can work on to be more efficient.''

I would have to agree with Carroll. Last year Booty never looked this bad. Without Smith and Jarrett, he only has Fred Davis back. And he does not seem to have any issues with Davis. If the receivers are not sharp, then they need to shoulder part of the blame.
SC seems to have become a one dimensional type receiver. While it has served them well in the past, we always had a burner to go with the big guy. Might be time to give Ronald Johnson a start. Somethng the defense would have to respect.

On another note, I remember hearing that Booty threw over 400 passes in practice without an interception, leading up to the season opener. And it was generally against our first team defense. That almost does not seem possible given the first half of the season.

It's pretty obvious Booty and the receivers are not, and were never, on the same page. At this point, I don't see that it will still improve. Chemistry takes time. It's not gonna happen this season. And besides, the Trojans are already out of the national championship. This blog, and all other SC sites, are practically - USELESS.

Coach Carroll has done wonders for USC. First and foremost I am a USC fan and I believe Pete Carroll is an awesome coach. He brought this program back from the brink of college football.
However I believe egos are getting in the way of the bigger picture for USC. This program is no longer about competing for 5,6 or 7 wins or only a pac ten title like those SC teams of the 80s and 90s. THIS PROGRAM IS ABOUT COMPETING YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT FOR THE NATIONAL TITLE!
The bigger picture is being lost here and I believe it falls only on the coach's shoulders to be able to realize if one or more of his players (i.e. QB or WRs) just doesn't have what it takes to get the team to the next level like Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, Lendale White, Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett did.
Competition, the staple of the Pete Carroll run Trojans, needs to be opened up again to all positions on the field. If that means making a change at quarterback this year for the good of the team and all egos and accolades aside than SO BE IT!
COACH CARROLL, I BELIEVE THE TIME IS NOW TO RIGHT THE SHIP AT QUARTERBACK!

Let the Mark Sanchez era begin! You're an idiot, PC. Petros was talking smack about the coaches and JDB on "The Challenge" with Fred Roggin a few hours ago.
Anyways, I found this quote from a Stanford player:
"We came in feeling like we could win. Our defensive coordinator told us exactly how the game was gonna go before it happened, so it was kinda crazy it turned out the way he said it would."
Unlike last year, I just blame Booty. Kiffin is gone, and Sark is better than Kiffin. Proof? Look at Fred Davis' numbers. Kiffin never used BFD last year.
But what good is play calling when your QB sucks?
I'm guessing the Stanford D coordinator said something like, "Get to Booty. He gets scared. Watch his eyes. Whoever he is focused on will receive the pass. Stack the box. Booty can't find second or third options. Make him uncomfortable in the pocket, because that is when he makes bad decisions. But most important of all, stick your arms up when he passes!" I could go on and on and on, but I don't have all night to list all of that midget's flaws.

While I agree with you all that the last 2 weeks have been horrible, lets not get hysterical about this and call for Coach Carroll to leave or say that he can't coach anymore. Don't you remember where we were before he was hired? WE COULDN'T HIRE A NAME COACH! NOBODY WANTED THE JOB! Look where he has taken the program!!! He will get things going again. I for one would HATE to see him leave SC!!

They better re evaluate the QB position. Especially if he's hurt. What happened to competition being the standard this program is based on.
