Greatness in college does not always translate to greatness in the professional ranks. Roughly 10,000 kids are in the highest college division and about 100 are drafted in the first three rounds. So the odds of being drafted are only 1%. That means there is a bigger jump in talent from college to pro than there is from high school to college. These are the best of the best, and anybody who is a success in pro ball is a marvel

I'm not sure why everyone is in a rush to get to the NFL. When you are there it is 80% self marketing and backstabbing and 20% football and 0% fun. Steve Smith LOVES Keary Colberet b/c he doesn't think he'll take his shine b/c he's a very demure guy. On the other hand you couldn't find Smith blocking or running on a play that wasn't his or going over the middle to save his life. NFL isn't football, it's showtime with a lot of prima donnas who know that marketing is more important than anything else and coaches that know that a well marketed player is worth ten coaches in the mind of owners. One of the commenters on that article you linked to said it. Steve Smith despite being the biggest dropper of passes and disappointment of the year is a media hound.

Maybe Jarrett should remind Smith how many passes he has dropped this year, better yet, better not or thug wannabe will attack you behind your back like the coward he is."

Did I mention how much the NFL sucks compared to college football?

I hate to say it, but I was honestly never that impressed with Jarrett. He never did convince me that he had good hands, and he was not a speed demon. I always thought of him as a bit soft after his freshman year homesickness. It seemed to me that we over-fucused on him on offense and frequently tried to force the ball to him. He did make a lot of great plays, but I think the coaches were exploiting his size mismatch more than his skills mismatch. But, I wish the kid the best of luck, and hope he makes his mark in the NFL. For me, I'd take a Steve Smith or a Keary Colbert or a John Jackson sure-handed, clutch receiver any day in our Trojans lineup. And, I hope that Vidal continues to grow into that mold.
