X's And O's

We've frequently mentioned the soft coverages played by the secondary but against Arizona, USC finally used some man-to-man coverage before going solely to it in the fourth quarter.

And it worked much better. Even with a third, or fourth, or fifth string CB in there, the blitz packages caused enough pressure to force Willie to throw the ball away. Do it and do it often against the Tarnished Domers this week. I want to see Sharpley and Clausen running backwards (and curling into the fetal position) all day.

Certainly this soft zone, or whatever it is called, is not working. Opposing quarterbacks are gaining confidence as their completions and yardage mount. Field position is being sacrificed, and in these lower scoring games it is taking on greater importance.

I know what you mean John, but Pete's MO is to keep everything infront of you. This is not a very good point they have gone man to man before this year it is just with a 10-12 yard cushion. That gives up the short passes that you brought up too, I don't see the point here?

I guess my point was not well taken. But what happened to the idea of knocking the receiver off his route at the line of scrimmage and then falling back? This way the short pass is more closely controlled, and the long pass still taken away. Of course, I am not a coach, and I guess we can see why.

John I didn't mean your point I ment Scotts, They have played man this year it has just been way back. Sorry for the mis understanding.
