Bowl Prediction
BCS analyst Jerry Palm now projects USC to play Illinois in the Rose Bowl. How underwhelming would that be?

antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

Gonna disagree with the Great One Jerry Palm. The Rose Bowl selection committee can't just keep it Pac-10/Big-10 for tradition sake. The tradition is the best of the Pac against the best of the Big 10, not just any ol matchup between the two conferences.
My prediction stands: Should tOSU go to the national title game, the Rose Bowl selects Georgia. That would be a great game!
The Rose Bowl will never select a 3-loss Illinois team over Georgia or Florida. Not an option. No one wants to see that game. An SEC team is the next likely target. I really want LSU but they gotta lose on Sat for that to happen.
If LSU loses to Tenn., then LSU is toast. Tenn. goes to the Sugar Bowl and Georgia goes as an at-large. A conference cannot have more than two teams represented in the BCS bowls.
I like the idea of a USC-Georgia matchup. For this to happen, Ohio State needs to climb to 2 (or 1) in the BCS and then the Rose Bowl selects Georgia to fill the void left by Ohio State.
What if Missouri and West Virginia BOTH lose? Who will be left to pick from? OSU and Georgia are probably 1 and 2 and play in the NC game; winner of LSU/Tenn. game is in Sugar Bowl; USC in Rose if it beats UCLA; Oklahoma in Fiesta; Winner of V. Tech/B. College in Orange.
Florida is not an option b/c of the conference 2-team limit rule. Missouri? West Virginia? Kansas? Hawaii?
Go Trojans, Mountaineers, and Sooners?
Here's a crazy scenario!!!
Here is an interesting scenario I was thinking of should Georgia finish the year at #5 (thus not an automatic qualifier) and Florida in the top 14. (Assuming Oklahoma wins Sat.)
1 - Rose Bowl picks first and selects Illinois to keep Pac-10/Big-10 (Don't want it to happen but it could.)
2 - Orange Bowl gets next pick and chooses Florida to play Va Tech/BC winner. (Makes sense to them since they are in state.)
3 - Since LSU/Tenn winner are locked into Sugar Bowl, that could leave Georgia out of a BCS bowl---the team everyone thinks is supposed to be the best team right now!
JDUsc, great analysis. I really hope, and would be shocked, if Mizzu and West Va both lose. I was hoping for a shot at LSU, but I do think that a Georgia game would be awesome. Have we ever played Georgia? Personally, I really think Mizzu can take OU on a neutral field, and West Va looks ready to roll over Pitt. And, a USC/OSU game would totally overshadow a Mizzu/West Va BCS game. That would be perfect, but the Georgia scenario would be cool too. However, I would probably cancel my Rose Bowl holiday plans if they are forced to select the Illini, the Rainbow Warriors, or KU. No offense to those teams, but they just don't bring the excitement to justify the expense of watching my Trojans in person dominate another Rose Bowl opponent.
