I'm sorry but Booty stunk up the field! Playcalling was lousy and for a second half team we were shut out in the second half.
Sanchez comes in the game with three minutes left, playcalling gets ultra conservative but throws one beauty to V Hazelton.
Im sorry but they need to sit Booty and let the reigns go with Sanchez.

we didn't win.
OSU lost: they couldn't protect their QB, (nice flagrant foul there, btw.) and they didn't rush our alleged QB enough.
i hope Booty is studying hard, 'cause i can't believe anyone would draft him to the NFL, unless they need an equipment manager or something.

You know all week PC and Sark were saying that because they had an inexperienced Sanchez playing against Oregon, that thats the reason why playcalling was conservative. They also said that because Booty was coming back the playbook would be opened up and playcalling would be better. DIDN'T SHOW!!!!
The difference now is you have a sucky QB playing instead of an inexperienced one! We have a Louisiana spy among us!
GIVE THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MEXICAN A CHANCE!

Despite some poor officiating, the defense did not disappoint. OSU's only points were a gift from JDB. Both sides of the ball are going to have to show up for us to win out.
It's too early to be calling for Sarkisian's head, although I did notice that his haircut was much shorter this week, no doubt a result of all those scathing posts this week.

Yep, pretty close to falling asleep in the second half. Defense was terrific. How about Cushing, Griffin, and Mays, particularly Mays easily pulling the fastest OSU guy down from behind on their first play from scrimmage, that otherwise would have gone for a TD.
I used to think that everyone we played had a great secondary, as we never seem to have a receiver particularly open. I guess it is because we really have no deep threat (unless McKnight or RoHo is in) and they can jam every receiver at the line.
At least the defense can keep us in the game with virtually anyone.
Scott, any way to tell us where we rate in the nation with dropped passes?
On the plus side, Hazelton is beginning to look really good.
JDB is really immobile - almost looks like he has a bad knee or ankle.

I wasn't able to watch the game (I know, depressing and deplorable) but following along online it looked like every 3rd down call was a McKnight run. Maybe that bush league stuff worked this week in a game where the defense shut the other team down, but this isn't the only time they got too run-happy on 3rd and long. They need to open up the playbook. Wasn't that what we were promised with Booty coming back this week?

Booty, Schmooty ... if Sanchez had played, it would have been 48-3. Booty has ZERO mobility, seems to panic too quickly, throws with too low of a trajectory, and looks out of shape. The closeups on TV makes it look like he has a double chin. What's up with that?
Sanchez is way more of a leader, more spirited, better arm, better future, and can scramble nimbly in the pocket when pressured. If Booty is pressured, he either is sacked where he stands, or falls and runs backward and is sacked further back behind the line of scrimmage. And that fumble that GAVE Oregon State its only points of the game was a complete joke. Does he think he is going to scramble away with those fast feet of his and hit a receiver downfield?
Either of the two QBs in the bonus coverage on ABC are better than Booty. BC's Ryan is very, very good, and the Florida State guy has a rocket and is good in the pocket. Yes, Booty waited patiently for his chance, but Pete needs to think about next season, too - wouldn't more game experience help Sanchez prepare for next year, in case he wins the starting job?
Running backs and receivers did a nice job. Good to see McKnight run with more confidence. Good to see the Student Body Left (or Right) back in the playbook. Give it to Joe, he'll get you the first down!
THE DEFENSE WAS AWESOME AS USUAL! Great, great job by the Trojans against the Beavers' offense. Despite the continuation of some very questionable calls by these Pac-10 refs. Are the zebras all betting against USC this season???

Don't get me wrong, I love USC and I am always trying to look for the positives, but our play calling is pathetic. Our defense is National Championship caliber, but our offense looks like it is WAC caliber at best.

It looked like the zebras could have called holding on every play against Oregon State. I wouldn't be surprised if the OSU linemen went home with enough pieces of jersey to sew together a full cardinal and gold shirt. And the "helmet-to-helmet" hit called on Cary Harris was wrong-wrong-wrong-wrong-wrong. He didn't even HIT the OSU guy with his helmet! The officials must be getting told to call it close on USC this season. When no reporters or TV guys report this stuff, it makes it look as if Pete is just complaining for no good reason when he talks about penalties. Why not report all the bad calls by the officials every week in a special log in the sports section?

rustjr, not sure if I like that analogy. Don't forget the WAC is the home of such offenses as Boise State, Hawaii, Nevada, and Fresno State (way back when). This offense belongs in the Big 10...or in 1950.

Positive: Everson Griffen, Butch Lewis, Joe McKnight and Vidal Hazelton are all developing.
Negative: Hire a special teams coach. One of the reasons Ohio State is No. 1 again is its special teams play; penalties there hurt more than usual this year.
Debatable: Allen Bradford takes another pass for a first down and promptly is pulled from the game? And why is Taylor Mays -- rather than Marshall Jones, who isn't redshirting -- in with USC up 24-3 with 6:30 remaining?

Sark is oblivious. I don't think he actually knows what he is doing now that he is alone in play calling. Defense looked great...but I've never seen the coliseum so down during a win.

C'mon, PC went man o man! IS anyone going to give him credit for seeing past his ego and "arrogance" on that one. He obviously hears it, with even other PAC 10 coaches talking about it. He's looking around and seeing stuff maybe. Problem is that PC isn't an O-minded coach and neither is his scared poopless OC Sark. And obviously there are clock mngmnt, personnel and special teams problems but that could be fixed with better assistants too.

I think we have maybe a dozen or so plays or am I being too generous?
I hope we don't get into a BCS bowl game-so many will see how awful we are

You folks know about me and Sánchez. To be objective I will take the major points from ALL of you. Before I start where are the usual suspects? 13-9 be careful and take it easy. Is it worthy to sacrifice your job, fans and be a constant target of criticism? WHY did I state that? I perceive the wrong sense of loyalty to a player. Doesn't the team come before that? Finally and with ALL due respect to ALL of you please make an effort to watch the replay of the Alabama vs. LSU.
Thanks

OOPS I goofed big time. I should have stated you know about Sánchez and me. A friend of mine who is a former defensive player in one of his emails told me that Hazelton would end-up as one of USC's best WR's if NOT the best...
Thanks

Great game! USC showed what they can do. Some guys got more experience and others played it up going into the last three games of their careers.
Going into Cal this win sure helps as Cals defense is not as good as OSU's. The offense can tear it up and the defense will take it to them!
Fight on!

Overall Booty was VERY rusty. The ball was coming out bad again. I really think SC needed to run the ball more. The line, even without Baker, was wining the battles up front. I am glad to see people notice the problem with giving McKnight the ball too much. Chauncey averaged 5 yards per carry, Stafon averaged 6.2. Combined they had 97 yards with a 5.38 avg., with no yards lost. McKnight, on the other hand drug us down. 14 carries for 34 yards (that's 2.4 ypc) while losing 17 yards. Basically, just based on that, you take McKnight's numbers and Booty's sack yardage out of the equation, USC gained 99 yards on 20 carries. That's 4.95 yards per carry. Compare that to 35 pass plays (including Booty's sacks, both times they got him because of his immobility) and e had 124 yards on 35 plays; that's 3.54 yards per play.
NO you can't run without passing. But the SC offense has gone a way from creating running lanes with the pass formations. You win games by playing defense (which the Trojans definitely did) and running the ball. If two guys are averaging almost 5.5 yards a carry, they are not stopping you. RUN IT! POUND IT! THEN, run a little play action and take a shot. A REAL shot. Play action is not effective if everything you throw with it it is 5 to 10 yards.
I will give Sarkisian one big up: The circle route by Chauncey out of a running formation really worked. That was set up by the 19 yard run by Chauncey. Run personnel package, run formation, 2nd and 8, run stunt coming throw it where the backers clear out of. More of that should have followed but it didn't.
