Gator Nuisance
On the national recruting scene, Florida continues to be USC's biggest rival and seems to hold its own, with safety Will Hill and linebacker Brendan Beal, both from New Jersey, where the Trojans used to have great success. But the biggest player USC misses right now is wide receiver Percy Harvin.
The sophomore ran 11 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns and caught nine passes for 110 yards against Vanderbilt, the first player in Florida history to total more than 100 yards rushing and receiving.
That's the type of player USC relied on in the past when it overwhelmed opponents with talent.

just think: if he'd come to SC, he could have joined the running back rotation and not have had to run so many times.....

Harvin's a receiver, not a running back. He gets his yards via end arounds and reverses because their best running back is their quarterback.
It's true that if we had Harvin, we probably would have beat FUCLA last year and may not have two losses this year. Pete needs to do something with that Meyer guy over in Gainesville. He seems to be putting a whoopin' on old Pete in the recruiting war. Maybe coach Norton can schedule a meeting with Urban behind the woodshed next time he's in FLA.

We should be more worried about Oregon and an upstart ASU program stealing the SoCal kids. There is enough talent in SoCal where Trojans don't need every out-of-stater. Just cherry pick a few Five Stars. The instabilty at Westwood could lead to a nice windfall this recruting year.

So we lost the battle of Brendan Beal huh?>? Too bad, he was Cushing's heir apparent and a possible Cushing stunt double. It seems were losing all the major defensive prospects to other top schools. Could it be possible that these kids choose other schools because those other defenses are more aggressive in blitz schemes and also use more man-man coverages which help develop a DB>??

We have a Percy Harvin Type player in ROJO (Travon Patterson too), heck we already have a Desean Jackson Type player in Turner (albeit a step slower).. Its not the lack of big name/big play guys, its the PLAYCALLING as well as the type of offense we run! There's NO reason SC should have Three 5 star receivers and a season long pass of only 40 some odd yards! Makes no sense! I watch Dixon, Carpenter, Longshore, Brohm, Brennan Etc. Throw downfield passes all day long! We need to Recognize everyones strong areas & potential EARLY and adjust plays and lineups accordingly.. We shouldn't be 8 games into the season bobbling tailbacks and misfiring receivers! DISGUSTING!!!
The Harvins, Jacksons, Crabtrees, Benns are already in our program. We need to find was to allow these guys to shine!

Yes, T&T, what we need to do is protect our turf as best we can from Oregon, Cal, ASU, and non-conference national programs. Sometimes, I think we may be spreading ourselves too thin by focusing on out of state talent at the expense of in-state recruits. Let's be honest, would we rather have Turner or Jackson today? If we hadn't recruited Turner, then DeSean would be a sensational SC WR in the Heisman top 20. A more consistent, disciplined RJ Soward.
Recruiting is sooo hit or miss, we need to worry about and focus on protecting our backyard from the Pac-10. I really don't care all that much about losing the occasional national recruit to Florida or Ohio St. There is a kid just as good within 100 miles of campus, guaranteed. And, the fact that we are a school of interest across the nation continues to demonstrate that the Carroll era is alive and well.
