Joseph Suspended
Cornerback Vincent Joseph was suspended for the game by athletic director Mike Garrett because he accumulated too many negative points. Athletes earn negative points for missing class or tutoring sessions.
``I had team problems,'' Joseph said.

Comments
Mark Twain, when asked about an erroneous newspaper article that talked about his death, exclaimed, "That report was grossly exaggerated."
And so it is with the SC football team. It may not be showtime Trojans anymore, but look who is going to the Rose Bowl if it wins out.
Now, that ain't half bad.

Actually, the team with the biggest gripe in America would be Oregon. They got jobbed in 2001 and it looks as if it is going to happen again, unless LSU or OSU get beat, which the odds say will not happen.
I still say the Ducks are the most entertaining team in football. I am mesmerized by that Dixon, and he seems to be a real gentleman as well i.e. did you see how the SC, and to a lesser extent, ASU players would pat him on the helmet after a good run? Now, that is class

Finally, was that heartwarming or what, seeing Navy end 43 years of misery to Notre Dame?-- I am not so much anti-ND as I am pro-Navy, and I love to see underdogs win (unless they are playing SC!). But what a rush it must be for those boys and what a party they must be having in Annapolis, even now in the early hours of Sunday morning. I bet most of them never went to bed. But, of course, I thought if Navy were ever going to break the streak it would be this year, for obvious reasons.

Correction: SC goes to the Rose Bowl if it wins out, AND Oregon plays in the national championship game.

Finally, finally:
To all the naysayers out there, recall that SC was a favorite to win the title this year, and the odds were still 3 1/2 to 1 against. That means they had one chance to win it, and 3 1/2 chances not to win it. In other words, the odds were still pretty heavily against them to go all the way.
So,folks, get real.

Some really good posts form John!! To the Norte Dame thing: first of all I do cheer for Navy and all arm forces teams for that matter. However the Win yesterday over Norte Dame was just awesome and it proves what all of us including the host of this blog have thought for a long time….. Charlie Weis is a phony!!!!! He is a very pompous man and has no I repeat no class whatsoever. Oh wait I forgot this is all Ty Willingham’s fault!!!
To Oregon let’s be frank the Ducks and the PAC 10 for that matter are going to get screwed again!! It is unfair because I would bet a TON of money that they would run Ohio St. off the field and if Dennis Dickson does not win the Heisman nobody better ever tell me again that East Coast bias is just something that us west coasters bitch about!!

I am leaning toward the Fiesta Bowl scenario. It all starts with the Cal game.....what the hell happened to Cal...they are really struggling, and with this Def, we should be able to win that game. With UCLA's woes, I believe we win that game at home, as well. So, the winner of the ASU game gets picked by the Fiesta Bowl as a BCS at-large and the loser goes to the Holiday Bowl wit the Ducks getting screwed again with a Rose Bowl. How in the hell does LSU keep pulling these close games out of their asses! Still a decent chance that OSU and LSU drop one this year, making it an Oregon/West Va Sugar Bowl.

It was GREAT to see big boy charlie go down, particulary after they had padded their schedule with Navy for all of these years.
Scott, how about voting Oregon #1? You can make a very strong case they are the best team in the country.
Remember the Ducks totally crushed Michigan, which is on its way to making it back in the top 10.
For some reason, if you play in the SEC you can rack up 3 or 4 losses and still be considered "great team, if they played in the Pac-10 they would be undefeated".

"One of USC's most highly touted recruits in the Carroll era, Griffen has generally been a disappointment compared to his hype. But Griffen made 32 sacks, forced a fumble and made six tackles."
Carroll shoulda redshirted him.

Rob,
Couldn't agree more about Navy, and the infatuation with Charlie Weis. Somehow, I don't think this is going to make it onto his resume:
First 0-4 start in Notre Dame history; Worst home loss since 1956, second-worst home loss ever; Biggest loss to USC in the series' 79-game-history; First time shutout by USC in school history; First Notre Dame loss to Navy since 1963.

Wow Bosco...Griffen made 32 sacks? Unbelievable.
I think you meant 3.5.
Still pretty good, though not as good as 32.
