Memo To Caesar

USC recently received a track commitment from Blake Shaw, who is also a standout wide receiver at Cypress Falls (Texas) High School. He caught three touchdown passes in a game last month and his team is trying to get to its second straight state championship game.
If he has hands of any kind, maybe Caesar can poach the track team for another athlete, something he's done regularly over the past six years.

Shocking, Scotty, but -- ONCE AGAIN -- you didn't do your homework.

Blake Shaw is an 800-1500m runner. If you knew anything about football -- which, as we all too painfully know by now, you don't -- you'd know that someone who runs that event does not have the speed to play WR. He's a middle-distance runner, not a sprtiner.

Maybe Carroll can poach the next European distance runner that Ron Allice signs, too, because it's just as likely.

Steve cut him some slack. The guy plays football for his High School team, so he prolly has some speed/skill.

I do have a gripe with Scottie though...where is our basketball coverage!? I know we are a football school, and the times you do post Basketball news you normally scoop everyone else...but still. Season starts on saturday and there have been no posts. This is a big year for SC basketball, the year we can prove last year wasn't a fluke, and really get some reconition. I think it deserves some coverage.

PC never learns...last thing we need is a WR w/bad hands

Unfair/not true in your criticism of the admittedly often-annoying Scott Wolf. A very good 800m runner has to have speed AND stamina. In this case this is a guy with GREAT speed, known for his "kick". A lot of coaches will see a "strong" (high stamina) sprinter and use that kick. But there are kids with extreme stamina and mediocre speed (or undisciplined starts) who get by in the 800.

Scott Wolf

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
