About your AP ballot, what is your method of ranking? A lot of us are very curious not just of the low rankings for Pac-10 teams but for things like two-loss Texas being ranked ahead of undefeated Kansas.
What is the team's feeling heading into the Cal game?Do Caesar, coaches, and players believe they have turned the corner (Booty back, healthy players) and will finish the season strong (3-0)? Or is the team still struggling with its identity and confidence?
USC has had a recent history of scheduling tough opponents like Auburn, Arkansas, Nebraska (at least they were expected to be tough) and the upcoming Ohio State series. It had also been mentioned that attempts get regular season games against LSU and Oklahoma were made.
Who had a say in setting up these and future out-of-conference matchups?
Is there any discussion of changing the offensive playbook or the OC in the offseason? I know Pete likes Sark, but maybe there is a chance of him leaving and Pete bringing in a new type of system?
Why do you persist in wearing a soccer jersey for your TV reports? Don't you own a sportscoat or other more formal wear? It just seems like it would be more professional, and add more credibility.
While i love all the football news, when can we expect some Basketball coverage? I know you're only 1 man, but they practice like 10 minutes away from each other.
I'd be willing to help report in exchange for banner ads promoting my site! :)
Wolfie, it appears as if Caesar has finally come around and accepted blame for coaching this week. It's inevitable that the coach will be blamed at some point, even Caesar. He went on the defensive for Sark, very directly took the blame for Stanford, and seemed to show quite a bit of "bend" on his previously unbendable, beyond reproach philosophies. He ate some crow this week, and that is a great sign of a willingness to make adjustments that will hopefully lead to improvement.
Question, what, if any major changes do you predict for the offseason? We're still only 2/3 of the way through 2007, but do you think there is a possibility of major staff changes in the offseason due to replacement rather than turnover....or, more flexibility in playing the more talented player over the more experienced player (Sanchez/Booty), or more philosiphical changes about taking the FG rather than ALWAYS going for it on 4th down? At this point, what changes/adjustments to you see PC making in prep for 2008?

What are your thoughts on pollspeak.com rating you the worst voter this week and pointing out some pretty bizarre choices (for example: "He gives Texas their highest ranking at #7 and Kansas its lowest at #9. Aside from the fact that Wolf is the extreme in both cases, the placement in regards to each other is strange. Forget that Texas has two losses to Kansas' zero losses for a moment. These teams have had three common opponents: Baylor, Nebraska and Kansas State. Texas lost to K-State. Kansas won. Texas beat Baylor 31 - 10. Kansas beat them 58 - 10. Texas beat Nebraska 28 - 25. Kansas beat them 76 - 39. ")
Some people attribute Booty's batted down passes on his lack of height, but when Sanchez played those few games this season, he also had a lot of problems with batted down passes even though he is he taller than Booty. So clearly height is not the reason for batted down passes.
What do you attribute to why Booty and Sanchez have problems with batted down passes? Do Mustain and Corp have the same problems with having their passes batted down?
Any information on this would be most appreciated.
Has this been an intense week at practice leading up to the Cal game? It seems like when we hear the focus is there, the outcome on Saturday is much better. Your thoughts?
Hey Scott, you wrote a couple of weeks ago that Damian Williams is still not practicing and won't be back until the spring, but are you 100% sure about that? I have seen both pictures and video of him in full pads participating in practices. So what's the status of Williams?
Coach Carroll is now publicly admitting that the Stanford debacle was his fault by not benching an injured JD Booty. So do you have any idea how much this will cost Pete financially in contract bonus money this year by SC not going to a BCS or major bowl?
How would you rate the progress of Taylor Mays this year? It seems he hasn't done as much as many (I) expected him to after a great freshman year. If anything Kevin Ellison is having a better year.
What is you impression of the wide receiver coaching. What has gone wrong over the last few years (other than Chow leaving). Is SC getting better with Morton as the WR coach versus Kiffin. Are they teaching the fundamentals? The two areas on the team that have really collapsed since Chow left are at WR and QB...which incidently were Kiffin and Sarks positions.

Your biggest point for USC was that they lacked a break-away threat.

Are you surprised that Mike Williams was such a bust in the NFL? Is attitude part of the problem? I would put the blame primarily on lack of speed, but lack of speed didn't drop the 4th down pass against the Titans.
llong:
There are 32 teams in the NFL. There are about ten top TE's. That leaves about 22. QB's, OL,WR's, DT's and DB's generally go first. As much as I like Fred Davis brutally and honestly stated I can't see how he would go in the first round. Very early in the second round is definitely a possibility. If FD has a great combine he might slip into the first round.
Thnx
Wolf, can you settle a dispute about your reporting style? I say you consciously focus on anything about the USC program that could seem negative. That includes the use of selective statistics or unverifiable rumors and innuendo. Even your voting in the AP poll seems astoundingly ignorant. This is intentionally done to create interest. People may dislike what you say, but they read it and talk about it, selling more papers and creating more web site traffic for the Daily News.

With the dawn of eligibility and the inevitability of coronation to the Trojan throne fast approaching for our hero Mitch Mustain, there are still several mysteries unsolved that raise serious questions:
1) Has your silence these past few weeks over Pedalgate been deliberate? Have you made any breakthroughs?
2) With Elevatorgate also unresolved, has our hero Mitch Mustain set foot in these contraptions of danger yet or does his predetermined destiny preclude him from getting near these pitfalls of doom?
3) Are you doing any kind of special typing exercises to get ready for the influx of new material for "Mitch and Me" come January? Have these past few months only been prelude chapters until we get to the inevitable coronation?
4) Have you come up with a subtitle yet for "Mitch and Me"? How about "Mitch and Me: My Adventures in Mustainland with The Chosen One"?
5) Since it has been noted, on numerous occasions, that our hero Mitch Mustain's ability to avoid danger is proof that he is, indeed, the Chosen One, will "Mitch and Me" also cover issues of spirituality and a higher calling? Will "Mitch and Me" be the first book ever to be shelved in numerous different sections of a bookstore, including, but not limited to, biographies, sports, philosophy and religion?
So when "Mitch and Me" inevitably becomes a bestseller across numerous genres, will you donate any of the proceeds to the USC Mitch Mustain Center for the Study of Trojan Heroes?
Our hero Mitch Mustain is not only The Chosen One, he is the only one who can lead the nation of Troy back to the Promised Land. As citizens of Mustainland, are you getting ready for the greatest chapter yet of your magnum opus, "Mitch and Me"?

Sanchez absolutely CHOKED! He embarrassed himself and hurt his already fading chances for next year even more. I suggest you go to practice sometime and see for yourself. Mustain will beat Sanchez 100 out of 100 times. Ask the players what they think, they will agree.
Sanchez can't read defenses and is a turnover machine. He throws into double and triple coverage, he abandons the pocket too early and he can't seem to read defenses. You name it, Sanchez is finished at USC. He had his chances at Oregon and he threw two key brain dead interceptions.
For now, he isn't close to Mustain and Corp will be passing him by soon, too.

With our pleothra of talent @ RB who do you see as our starting back in two years? Does Mark Tyler stand a chance for significnt playing time with our coaches already babying McNight?
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. With our pleothra of talent @ RB who do you see as our starting back in two years? Does Mark Tyler stand a chance for significnt playing time with our coaches already babying McNight?
