Stanford Revision

Here's an excerpt from my story in today's Daily News with some interesting quotes from John David Booty.

``Even as he came off the field at Arizona State on Thursday night, USC quarterback John David Booty mentioned his regret at playing against Stanford with a broken finger.
``Looking back on it, I don’t know that it helped us to stay in the game,’’ Booty said. ``You could easily tell it affected the way I threw the ball. I tried to play it down because I wanted to compete. I probably shouldn’t have been in there against Stanford. When you’re not 100 percent it’s hard.’’
It’s the first time Booty blamed himself for playing against Stanford, a game that currently ruins USC’s resume a lot more than a loss to Oregon when it had quarterback Dennis Dixon.''

That shows character to try to take the blame.....great kid, but it's still the coaches faults.

I am going to have to go against you on this one. Booty said and did what he was suppose to say and do. Again this was a coaching error. All of our recent losses can be traced back to coaching errors.

I'll take the coaching errors that result in 12-2 seasons over those that make us 6-5 any day. Right now, I count 7 serious programs in the Pac-10. To finish on top of the conference 6 years in a row when those schools are bringing in big time coaches, building 21st century facilities, and becoming the poster teams for Nike, come on guys... Enjoy this amazing run. With a healthy J.D. we're probably undefeated. Not necessarily pretty, but in the driver's seat for the NC.

The TEAM comes before the EGO. Yes, the coaches messed-up but he has to be man enough and say coach I can't grip the ball right or tight. He is just as responsible as the coaches. I appreciate your respectful rebuttal.
Thanks

wudda shudda...fact is that we are most talented team that squandered it all-blame it on PC's arrogance and Irish stubborness

No one blamed Matt for toughing it out against ASU and coming back into the game his first year as starter. Stop blaming Booty...he did what any player at USC is expected to do. Suck it up and tough it out. It was the coaches responsibility to pull him once they realized he couldn't perform. It was a mix of arrogance and disrespect for Stanford and PC has admitted that is was a huge mistake not to...we learn and move on.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
