His name was thrown around for the Michigan HC spot earlier in the season. I guess now that the Wolverines are back on track, the rumor mill has to search elsewhere. I don't think Tedford is going anywhere, at least not after this season.
Carr is out at Michigan and expect LSU's Les Miles to take that job. Miles is a UM alum and has the school in his out clause.
Tedford may have had it with the hippies and higher academic standards at Cal and take a look at A&M. Football won't take a backseat to treehuggers at College Station.
Just wondering: How do Cal's admission standards compare to those at A&M? I know Cal has snuck some questionable admissions through in the past few years, but I'm not sure if Texas A&M's is tougher, same or has less restrictions? Anybody know?
Trust me.
The only D1 school tough to get into in Texas is Rice University, the Harvard of the Southwest...
Tonic, you're part right. Les Miles does have a special clause in his contract involving Michigan, but it's actually more costly to go to UM because it is Michigan.
"Cost of being a Michigan man: LSU's Les Miles must pay $500,000 to leave before his contract expires at the end of 2011 — $1.25 million if he leaves for Michigan, where he played, graduated with a degree in economics and coached under Bo Schembechler and Gary Moeller."
I do think he'll probably end up at Michigan though. As for Tedford, who knows. He's a California boy born and bred. I'm not sure he'd want to go to College Station or Baton Rogue even if the programs were stronger (I don't think all that highly of the A&M job). I'd be a little fearful that he might be lured to UCLA though. I think Dorrell is done (I saw a giant fork sticking out of his back in the Zona game) and Tedford is from Downey. As much good as he's been able to do at Cal, UCLA is a much more attractive job with a much stronger tradition and I think it'd be possible for Tedford to challenge Pete if they had equal footing on the recruiting trail.
Of course, I'm high on Tedford. I've read posts on this site about a guy getting more run from a loss to USC, but people need to remember that it was his win against SC in '03 that cost SC the outright title. And that was with a far more inferior team to what he could field at FUCLA. I'm not saying he'd take over southern California, I'm just saying he'd be 10 times better than Dorrell. If Pete ever leaves, I wouldn't mind seeing Tedford coach SC. Love his offense and with the athletes he could recruit here, I don't think we'd miss a beat.
Sureshot
Why there? They can't even put together a football rally without keeping people alive.
Here's another scoop for you. The Versus channel, for which the Pac-10 is named, has a new sports show:

Jack Del Rio:
How do you do?
You know Jeff SC have might an opening at Offensive Coordinator if you are interested......
FIRE SARKISIAN!!!
I cant believe that about Jack Del Rio - would he really leave the pros? Scott, you got an answer on this?
Why would Tedford leave the nice Bay Area for College Station (aka Dirt Hell). A&M is the opposite of a great place to coach Div IA Football. Waaay too much hype and expectations, too hard to recruit against UT and Okla (forget about poachers like USC and LSU) and your conference division is loaded with UT, Okla, TT, etc. I'd much rather stay at Cal where losing one game still puts you in the race for the Pac-10 title and the "Granddaddy Of Them All"!
How much does Del Rio make per yr? That is interesting, but my vote would be for Mike Riley. Tedford is also interesting, but difficult to fathom with the bitter rivalry we have going with Cal. However, this is all just silly gossip, as Pete isn't going anywhere for several years, in my opinion, and it will be a sad, sad day in SC history when PC leaves. Honestly, I bet he stays until he is 70 and we are lucky to have him.
Now, on Tedford, I heard that he is disappointed that Cal's stadium renovation deal fell through. As far as big-time coaches go, he is underpaid, has old facilities, and deals with an administration that places a lower priority on football success. Living in Texas, I am intimately familiar with the A&M job, and I would compare it to UCLA, Florida St, or Auburn. The #2 football school in a football rich and mad state. It is also an excellent institution with incredible tradition and a wonderful college atmosphere.....and, yes, very good academics. Finally, they have big, big money to throw around, which is how they lured Coach Fran from Alabama. I would love to see Tedford go to A&M, and I think he is ripe for the pickings at Cal, but I am not sure that a west coast, SoCal guy would actually move to a college town in south Texas. But, I pray to God that he doesn't go to UCLA. I know A&M will make a run at Kubiak, the Texans coach, but not sure if they have a real shot at him. Interesting discussion, and can't wait to see how it turns out.
