A Pac-10 coach told me today he thinks Joe McKnight will be a factor against UCLA and someone the Bruins will need to spend a lot of time on in their game plan. We'll just be happy if he doesn't fumble.

Ouch.
It hurts because it's true.

Yes, he may fumble more than anyone would like. But Joe is a special player and we are glad he's a Trojan. If he fumbles once in a while but he makes an ESPN highlight play or two every game, that's a good trade-off in my book. I'd rather have his talents and have other teams worrying about him, than not have this weapon in our playbook. Even Reggie Bush fumbled once in a while, but not many complained since he was such a game-breaker. It's time to dwell on the positive and let the negative-thinkers gather in a closet and make each other happy.

He usually fumbles in traffic. Try getting him the ball in space...OFTEN. This is a 180 lb kid who feels that once they get their hands on him, the play is over. He is trying hard to use, spins, and fakes to get loose and this sometimes leaves the ball exposed as he does his shake and bake in traffic. Next year after more strength training and the training table, he will be rock hard (he looks bigger than 180 now) and his speed will allow him to break tackles and into open space. Next stop the HOUSE. Why don't they try him at draws, and screen passes when its 3rd and long. Stop running him into the line at 3rd and three.

Joe McKnight is improving every week. Even if he fumbles he's still a star in my book so long as he doesn't try to lateral the ball at the 20, at a dead run to a receiver who never caught a pass, during the national championship game. Fight On!!

Kind of hate to say it, but Joe Mc's fumble problem is a reason why true freshmen should rarely play. His fumbles are not merely a concern.....but a MAJOR problem, as he has fumbled in almost every game he has played in. We are very lucky his fumbles have not been more disastrous. The coaches need to give this highly touted recruit touches, as were probably promised during the recruiting effort, but I would prefer to see more touches go to veterans like Des and Herschel, especially when a young RB is fumbling. I love his potential, but his contribution has been minimal, and primarily negative...coaches are pushing him too fast to fulfill recruiting promises. Dancing with the devil, so to speak, perhaps a necessary evil.
