Caesar compared freshman linebacker Malcolm Smith to Lofa Tatupu.
``He's even more athletic,'' his eminence said.

Smith sure looked athletic on that kickoff return in the Nebraska game, after he returned the fumble by Vincent Joseph (who was hit in the throat) for 30+ yards. Plus, he has good genes.
However, Lofa is a high standard to meet. I sure wish Lofa was there to shadow Vince Young in the Rose Bowl (although the fact that Lofa started as a rookie MLB in the Super Bowl shows he made the right choice for his career).
What is this "eminence" stuff. Scott, give it a rest!

Awesome, I hope that means his instincts and intelligence are on par with Tatupu.

USCMike, yes, if Lofa had had stayed, as almost everyone thought he should have at the time, our Trojans would have had enough to slow Vince down a bit to win that Rose Bowl. One factor that is often overlooked when evaluating programs is underclassmen declaring early for the draft. I don't know for a fact, but believe that SC has had more high profile underclassmen declaring early for the draft over the last several years than any other major program. Probably due to the "LA's pseudo NFL team" factor, and tremendous talent. But, when we talk about our great run, sportswriters don't seem to appreciate just how many talented SC players left a year or two early, and how much greater our dynasty might have been without so much premature NFL attrition.
