Carroll `Disappointed'

| | Comments (4) |

Pete Carroll said offensive guard Chilo Rachal informed him that he would make himself available for the NFL draft. Carroll was disappointed Rachal did not consult him before making his decision
``I asked him who he confided with and was real disappointed we were not part of the decision,’’ Carroll said. ``There’s a lot of information at his disposal. He did not go through the (NFL early) evaluation process. He didn’t want to.’’

That's a shame. I understand Rachal's family is facing some financial hardship with the parent's illnesses, but I don't think he will be drafted high enough or even drafted, period, to even make enough money to cover the medical costs. I sure do hope I am wrong though, he seems like a hell of a guy...

It is hard to fault someone for wanting to provide for their family. I figure that he just wanted to turn pro, such that evaluations, consulations, etc. would not have changed his mind. If he is smart, he will spend the time between now and the combine/pro day and work his butt off to get in the best shape possible.

However, I would not be suprised to see him drafted in the later rounds and then struggle to land a spot on a roster. He will have to prove himself in training camp. I recall that he had some bonehead penalties (late hit penalty on first drive against Oregon), and some injury concerns. Pro scouts are not going to miss those issues.

Good luck to Chilo.

Fight On!!

Let's all pull for him. If he gets the right OL coach maybe he develops into a good OL man.

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
