College Football Playoff

| | Comments (5) |

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany is possibly the most powerful commissioner in the country. Here's what he told XM radio about the plus-one format for a college football playoff.
``We just have never seen a plus-1 plan that addresses the Rose Bowl and its relationship to the Big Ten and Pac-10 in a way that would be acceptable to us. So we’ve been having a relationship with the BCS for a decade and we have a 60-year relationship with the Rose Bowl.
``The Rose Bowl relationship, to be honest with you, is the most important one we have-although we appreciate the BCS, we support the BCS.We’ve never seen a four team playoff stay as a four team playoff. So if you are concerned, and we are, about an eight-team,12-team, or 16-team playoff and what it would do to college football, we don’t believe that you allow the camel’s nose under the tent with a four-team playoff.''

Comical. I'll stick with Appy State and the rest, at least they settle it on the field

Think how special the Rose Bowl actually would be if we weren't the perennial home team. I'm starting to see the benefits of leaving the Pac 10. Like we wouldn't have to settle for the Rose Bowl. And we'd never lose to Stanford again.

Delany and the Pac10 are a joke. It appears that the rest of the college football world is ready to move toward a playoff. Sticking with tradition is another phrase for being adverse to change. Can someone supply Delany with a copy of "Who Moved My Cheese?"

As a fan it is absolutely frustrating to enjoy a great college football season and then at the end wonder who the best team is. Could you imagine if college basketball did not have a tourney? Or the NFL without a Super Bowl? Let's see, New England would be selected to the play in the Championship game, but 7-9 Buffalo would be playing in the NFL version of the Rose Bowl.

Here's my plan: Take two of the BCS Conferences that do not have a Conference Title game (Big Ten and Pac Ten) and have them play a "Rose Bowl Conference" championship game every year on Championship Saturday in early December in Pasadena. This will help the BSC title selection by effectively eliminating the Big Ten frauds before they embarass themselves and allow the Rose Bowl to annually have the precious Big Ten/Pac Ten matchup they desire. It also will level the playing field by allowing 2 these conferences to play the same number of games as the Big 12, SEC, and ACC. In addition, match the Big East up with the top non-BCS (or Notre Dame) team eliminating another pretender. This leaves 5 champions (Big 12, ACC, SEC, Big 10/Pac 10 winner, Big East/Non-BCS winner) to fill 4 playoff positions.

The NCAA is not a democracy, majority does not rule. The Rose Bowl committee does not care about CFB fans. They should have picked a (Top-10-BCS) rated team for the '08 RB. They gave the Big Ten a second multi-million dollar pay-out, and basically screwed Arizona State (and Pac-Ten) out of this money, by choosing Illinois. Tradition is overrated. Because of tradition, a conference with eleven teams, is called the Big-Ten. There were some great RB games before the "traditional" pact was signed. Regarding the NCAA: they should require all teams to belong to a conference. How many "huge" BCS pay-outs has Notre Dame collected, (with no sharing and no winning)? Eight-team play-off....progress vs. tradition.
