We asked someone who works with Pete Carroll why last week's flirtation with the Atlanta Falcons took place despite Carroll's stated intention to never leave USC for the NFL.
``Ego fulfillment,'' the co-worker said.

It's funny, you deride Wolf but you keep coming back to read him. The guy is great, loves to needle the idiotic SC fans who can't see past their noses and he gets info that either SC fans don't like or don't get anywhere else.
Carroll's ego is HUGE, and he will play this game with the NFL every year Trojan fans, like it? I for one, don't.
If Pete Carroll wants to salve his ego with potential pro opportunities, so be it. Just as long as he stays. Maybe the interest will spark Garrett into paying him more, paying assistants and coordinators more, better facility etc. Pete has earned the right to pat himself on the back a little.
Durrrrr, whether PC has any interest in ever leaving USC for the NFL is a) only something he knows for sure and b) is not carved in stone, even if as of now he isn't interested.
Those points aside, it's standard business practice to listen to any offer any one wants to make, even if it's only to keep your current employer aware of your free-market value. Saying "I am not now nor will I ever leave USC for another job and I will not now nor will I ever listen to any other offers" is just moronic.

About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

UCLA's cheerleaders are putting in overtime getting ready for this weekend's game against USC. Here's a look at this week's workout:
