A USC commit from Southern California spoke to another school this week and one of the first topics that came up: Pete Carroll's interview with the Washington Redskins.

whatever.
shouldn't a recruit be more concerned if a coach gets ZERO interest from the NFL?
to think Pete would actually ever leave, to me, is close to absurd. he's not an nfl coach. these little forays with NFL owners is, if anything, ego enhancement and potential bargaining chips for re-negotiating with SC. imho

Pete's little meetings with NFL clubs will hurt his recruiting. Remember, ASU and ucla now have real coaches who will use this against him as well as Urban Meyer. If he wants his ego stroked, then maybe it's time for him to depart SC for the NFL, maybe he can work for Al Davis, LOL. Look, no team is going to give him full control, none , so he should just quit the crap and coach SC until he's bored with it.

Gee, I wonder who brought that up, the recruit or the opposing coach? Even if Pete never spoke to an NFL team Bellotti and the rest of the PAC coaches wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't say "C'mon, you know Pete is too good not to go back. I doubt he'll be your coach when you graduate."
Hell, that's probably the line coaches have been using against SC since Bush, White, Booty, etc have been recruited and yet they all finished their careers here and Pete is still the coach.
Seriously Scott, since we no longer have anyone doing a basketball blog, how about some bball coverage? On second thought, the last thing they need is your negativity creeping around. Just go home and watch the Premier League.

I'msure it's hurting our recruiting this year. Beal mentioned it months ago. Only the rah rah myopic kiss a ** fans like Lambda refuse to acknowledge it.
it is not healthy to have this nfl thing hanging over like a black cloud. reminds me of a nagging spouse threatening a divorce.
Make up your mind Pete.

Final word on Pete and the NFL. The man is 56 years old, and probably is facing a mid-life crisis, or in coaching parlance, a late-life crisis. How many good years does he left in those tired old bones of his? How many coaches make it into their 60s, what with the tremendous energy and time demands of the job?
That said, Pete might also be thinking of his legacy. He can go down as one of the great college coaches of all time, or he can return to the NFL where he undoubtedly will not win a Super Bowl, and thus be labelled a constant pro football coach failure.
I believe that will be the overriding factor for Pete, his legacy. Thus, I believe he will be at SC for at least another 6-years, or until he is 62.
whatever.
