USC offensive guard Chilo Rachal said he might turn pro. Rachal said his family's situation is a key factor. His mother has a stomach tumor and is the process of getting insurance approval for treatment.
``That's been on my mind the whole season, I just didn't want to go public until now,'' Rachal said.

Damn, I feel so sorry for Chilo's mom, but also bad for Chilo, because he is far from ready to be an NFL lineman. Granted he's come a long way from the last Rose Bowl victory where he got his ass kicked regularly by his Michigan counterpart..but still he's probably our weakest link on our current line imho.

I agree, but it would also hurt us a lot.

We are very thin at guard

I hope that everything works out for Chilo. I would hate to see him go (only for the simple reason that he may not be drafted)? He has to do what is best for his family and if that is the case, then I really hope that he will be drafted, and that he does make an NFL roster. I wish his mother all of the best.

It is so sad the situations that some kids are put in. He needs one more year of work to become a a true top guard. I hope that it all works out best for him.

If he goes he's at best a mid to late 4th. rounder. Matua ended up as FREE agent. I hope he doesn't make the same mistake. Even though Winston Justice is a tackle and a better OL man he was taken in the 2nd. rd.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
