Wouldn't West Virginia have been a much better Rose Bowl opponent than Illinois?

It wouldn't matter. No team in the country can beat USC right now. That will become apparent when the LSU/OSU game is lack luster. OSU will win proving USC should be #1, since Illinois beat OSU.
