About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

The key to recruiting is what the recruits do on the field during the ensuing four years. Whitney Lewis pushed us to the #1 rankng a few years ago. Guys that never even qualified also boosted our rating.
It looks to me like we are a little light in the DL area. Between now and LOI day, I will be looking closer at how many DL guys we get committments from rather then the number of stars next to their name.
letr's be honest, Pete's lost it for now. Now's the time for him to go to the NFL
You have got to be kidding me! Before Carroll you guys were mediocre for years. Now you are quite possibly the best program in the nation, as much as it kills me to admit. Be careful what you ask for, it may happen and then you will go back to a program that Mike Garrett runs. I am sure your not all clueless as the previous poster ????
Hey just4SC:
"Pete's lost it for now!?" WTF!? You are the one who has lost it. Did you miss the 49-17 drubbing in the Rose Bowl? USC was ready to play, when other teams might have folded under similar circumstances(same bowl game, no NC game).
Every other school would kill for Carroll's track record. He has us in the Top 5 every year. Sometimes bad breaks happen. Is he really to fault because Bush decides to pitch the ball to Texas (2005), two tipped passes (2006), or a missed XP and a broken finger on the starting QB (2007)?
I realize he has made some bad choices in games (e.g., not pulling Booty against Stanford and not kicking the FG before the half), but coaches make 1,000s of choices throughout the year, and a few are bound to backfire.
His recruiting has been in the Top 2 or 3 each year.
I hate to agree with a tru-bRuin, but I would never wish for Carroll to leave for the NFL. Ever!
Pete's run his course...he's been on top for a while , but he's blown it. No one gets that many chances-ask any coach.
Better that he moves on now while he's ahead.
As for recruiting, we rank 14th as of now with little left to recruit. He has 10 or so scholarships just sitting there-no one wants them.
Beating a 3 loss Illinois team is no big deal.
just4sc:
You have to be kidding me. PC is th ekey to everything. This recruiting class is ranked lower than usually because of the high number of lineman being recruited. Lineman never gain as high of a ranking as skill players.
I wish fair weather fans like you would go never hop on the bandwagon.
Come on Scott, quit posting under that 'just4sc' handle ;-)
fight on...not a bandwagon fan; been a Trojan for almost 40 yrs.
linemen and skill players are ranked the same-there's no difference.
i hope i'm wrong, but, unlike other years, I hope he leaves. Del Rio and Fisher are waiting
just:
When is the last time an offensive lineman lead the rankings? It is always a skill position player. SC needed some big guys and got them. The surplus of skill players will benefit from this years recruiting class.
Be careful what you wish for in Del Rio and Fisher.
Its obvious what's going on in recruiting this year. The combination of "negative" recruiting has picked up...you've got to be naive if you think people like Urban Meyer and Les Miles aren't using the Bush scandal against Coach Carrol and SC. The only thing PC has done wrong is preach competition, and athletes more than ever are in the thought of entitlement and what are you going to do for me and do not want to take a chance of sitting on the bench. Hence, why schools like the University of Northern Indiana, I mean ND and Miami are having such a great recruiting year after a horrendous year...these kids are being told every position is open and believe it cause of the year the team was having whereas SC added another BCS win and again is loaded with upperclassmen at the skill positions. Lets face it the QB, RB, WR etc are sexy positions and do bring a higher recruiting ranking. Yeah, this recruiting year may be "weak" in terms of PC's past success, but its great to see that PC addressed the OL position this year cause you cannot underestimate how important the O-line is to SC's future success, especially if SC is going to be committed to the run and giving the future QB time to relax in the pocket. FIGHT ON!
One phase of recruiting I'd like to see Carroll go back to: plugging holes of need, with two-year JC players. Like Will Poole and Scott Ware. Ironicly, the "post" on the 1951 team: Pat Cannamela and Frank Gifford were both JC transfers.
