USC seemed to know before the game it would beat Illinois, so it wanted a blowout.

Where was Reggie Bush again this year?

Trojan fans outnumbered the Illini fans, not vice versa. I was surprised they didn't even outnumber the Michigan fans from last year. The Illinois fans that I encountered were extremely polite and friendly, resigned to the results of the game, but stayed until the bitter end to support their team, unlike the mass exodus by the Wolverine crowd last year.

I can't believe what you are writing Scott. This game had everyone praising SC and saying that SC is probably the best team in the nation. I wouldn say the game accomplished a lot in the perception of the media. It won't earn SC a national championship, but few people doubt SC's ability to beat any team in the country. The team solidified that impression yesterday.

What did you expect them to do? Throw their helmets out on the field and win the game. Are they suposed to play uninspired football just because the opponent is uninspiring? If that is what you think, you know less about Pete Carroll than I do and I have spoken briefly to him only once in my life.

You are crazy to say that there were more Illinois fans than trojans. The aerial shots of the rose bowl showed 3/4 Trojans and 1/4 Illini.

Give Pete plenty of time to prepare for an opponent, and he is going to spank them. Better players and much better coaching.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
