The List
Just to review, in case Pete Carroll left USC, the top three candidates on a list put together last year by USC were Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio, Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher and Oregon State coach Mike Riley.

About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

Throw in Jim Fassel regarded as one of the TOP NFL QB gurus. Furthermore he is a phone call away and is unemployed meaning he does NOT have to break any contracts. Realistically Fisher and Del Rio are just an ideal thought. Del Rio was quoted that he would sell his soul to coach USC. His team is ready to play the 2nd. playoff game or two games from the Super Bowl which means he's not going anywhere anytime soon unless something drastic happens. Those are my humble two cents.
why Riley?
Jack Del Rio, now that is the guy who will get in Nueheisels face....
i agree jack would be the ideal guy...i think his contract is up this year
Don't lose track of Norm Chow - maybe you've heard of him!
But as of now, it would be Del Rio's job to lose!
Guys please forgive me but I have another candidate with experience at both the NFL and college level. In fact he coached first at USC and then at Cal:
MOOCH as in Steve Mariucci! He's available but he won't come cheap as UCLA found out! He's charismatic, handles the media very well and he is also a QB guru offense oriented coach. One more thing he's a "branch" of the former USC QB Mike Holmgren "tree", say no more! He was Brett Favre QB's coach under Holmgren at Green Bay. How do you do?
just4sc:
I checked three different sites including jaguars.com and I did NOT find anything about Del Rio's salary.
Jim Fassel? That guys is fossil. I don't want a guru. We already had one of those, "the innovative Paul Hackett."
I also don't want MOOCH since he would use it to jump to the league. Del Rio sounds good but if its for another college guy I would take Bellotti. He should have gone to the title game one year and if not for a Dennis Dixon injury, would have been gone again this year.
El Cap, you get my post on your grammar corrections on the "Booty by the Numbers" post?
Oh, and there is probably a good reason they are both unemployed right now!
Unfortunately, Del Rio and Fisher are pipe dreams. They're on the order of Nueheisal thinking he can get Norm Chow.
PC's not going anywhere, but Del Rio would be an ideal replacement someday. However, I also agree that may be a bit of a pipe dream...he is one of the most talented young coaches in the NFL with a strong team, and he currently is making $3.3M/yr. I believe that Mike Riley would be an excellent, and the most likely, replacement. Remember, was a star, young, sharp, OC in the 90s and became a hot commodity. Good experience with the Chargers and Saints, and has turned OSU into a 9-10 win program. I think Riley would be great, BUT please don't go, PC!
PLH55:
That sounds like a Fram oil filter number, HAH! I could NOT resist! Hey oil filter number Hackett never made it past OC in the NFL. Fassel took the Giants to the Super Bowl and Mariucci had a playoff victory with the 49ers. Dr. Dork 49ers owner fired him despite a winning season. In fact the 49ers had NOT had a winning season since MOOCH left, OK? Do you have anything else Mr. Fram(!)?
