`Trojans Did Less With More'
AP poll voter J. Barker Davis of the Washington Times tells the Baton Rouge Advocate he doesn't buy the idea that USC or Georgia deserve consideration to be ranked No. 1.
``Georgia — just beat the lamest BCS team in history. The Trojans did less with more than any team in the nation this season and should be ashamed for having the audacity to do any stumping after the Stanford debacle.''

"The Trojans should be ashamed for having the audacity to do any stumping after the Stanford debacle"
I couldn't agree more...
Does this retard not realize that injury played a big role in our seasons outcome?...or does his brain not process that much information before he starts spitting crap out of his face? So much for being a proper journalist and analyzing all the facts BEFORE you form your final opinion. Does he just ignore all his fellow columnists who have done so and continue to name SC the best team at this, the most important, point of the season. Professional stupidity baffles me.
Would USC fans be okay with Ohio State in the BCS title game if their loss was to Youngstown State or Kent State? I wouldn't be....losing to a 41 point underdog at home is no different than that. We blew it the last two years and shame on us for that. Hopefully PC changes "Competition Tuesday" to Saturday next year so the team is ready to play every week.
correction.........we blew it the last THREE years
What does a #1 ranking mean? If it is the best team at the end of the season, then SC has a case to make for a #1 ranking. If it is the best team throughout the season, then that argument becomes a little more difficult to make. And in a crazy and unpredictable year, maybe the teams that screwed up in less significant ways (OSU and LSU), deserve the #1 ranking.
Still, the level of negativity and cynicism on this blog are ridiculous. It starts with Scott Wolf and permeates on down to the rest of the posters. If I didn't know better, I would think this site were for a team in turmoil, and not one that just completed another 11 win season, won the Rose Bowl, has a deep recruiting pipeline, and looking at another top 5 ranking heading into 2008.
There goes the bitter just4sc again.
You can see both sides of this argument though. Injuries plagued SC season, but there is no way SC should have lost to Stanford, and no way SC should be considered for the National Title.
Coach Carroll needs to make a few adjustments to stay ahead of the curve, and I believe he will.
I agree with Trojan_SF that we should be thrilled where the program is compared to the recent past (Hackett, Robo II, etc.), but agree with others that there have been missed opportunities the last few years.
2005 was the year of Reggie's bonehead pitch to Brad Walker (and porous defense). 2006 was the year of the tipped pass. 2007 was the year of the interception.
As for this year, we simply do not deserve to be named the No. 1 team in the nation by the AP Poll. Sorry, but that is my objective thought. The winner of tonight's game deserves the number one ranking. It doesn't mean they would beat USC, but it does mean they had a better year than USC. USC didn't have a strong schedule this year. ND and Nebraska had horrible years, and Idaho was dreadful. Except for USC (and maybe Oregon State), the remaining top Pac-10 teams all collapsed in the second half of the season. It beat a three-loss team in the Rose Bowl. There really is no signature victory.
We could lose to Stanford or Oregon, but not both. IF USC won either of those games, then we would be playing tonight. However, as the saying goes, IF a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump its ass on the ground.
Yes, Booty's injury killed us, but that is part of the game, and why your backup QB has to be prepared as if he is going to play. Unfortunately, that was not the case with Sanchez insofar as the coaches did not feel comfortable playing him in the 2nd half against Stanford. Frankly, I thought Sanchez showed signs of promise, but I also cringe when I watch those two picks in the Oregon game.
Let's just hope we are playing in Miami, Fla during the second week of 2009.
Fight On!
Righton Fighton!
But I really agree with the last from Trojan_SF, especially starting with SW. Scott, it really looks like you're trying overly hard to be impartial. Otherwise you are overly critical and negative!
2005...bonehead coaching; reggie on the sidelines on 4th and 2.
2006...bonehead coaching; failed to make simple adjustments to counter a vulnerable overattacking defense
2007...bonehead coaching...keeping a broken finger QB in game is only part of it- having him throw over and over was the real key.
who is to blame?
Booty's injury killed us?
Let's talk reality...he stunk against Idaho, Nebraska and Washington when he was healthy..looked awful against Stanford and most were happy to see him on the sideline.
what killed us was the coaching especially on the offense
What does Reggie do in Short Yardage???
Hindsight is 20-20. PC Made 1000 correct coaching decision to put SC in those situations.
Just4sc, you are a joke.
Geez, Just4sc, you sound like you want Paul Hackett back. Thanks, but no thanks.
I agree with Fighton, Trojan_SF and uscmike. We had a great season. Could have been better? Of course.
But it could have been a whole lot worse. I lived through the nightmare of the 80's and 90's, ND fans leaving the Coliseum with smiles on their faces for over a decade, B-ruins with their eight year streak, over half the seats empty at home games, people more interested in the beer lines than the defense lines...
Is it disappointing we were one victory away from the title game two years in a row? Yes. I would have enjoyed being in the desert last year or the Big Easy this year, especially since our team finished strong both years and would have skewered the Buckeyes, who have embarassed themselves two years in a row.
But I refuse to see this season as anything other than a success. After how our season started, getting to the Rose Bowl was like pulling a rabbit out of a hat.
Be grateful for the Rose Bowl victory, the great (but imperfect) coaches that we have and the promise that next year holds. Barbequed Buckeye sounds delicious!
Fight on-
you are the joke...Bush being on the field is enough to disrupt the defense and force them to pay attention to him rather than key on Lendale
Pete is a great con artist , but he has no clue about offense.
Just:
Is that really what would have happened? How did SC score its previous touchdown? Same play as they ran on the 4th. I am sure the decoy would have been a great option.
I think you should go put on the pansy blue and yellow and cheer for Dick Neuheisel.
