We Didn't Forget
Here's some more answers brought to you by Wonder Bread, which reminds us that it's a wonder how USC lost to Stanford this season. Your move, Roman Meal.
Q: Have you read, or intend to read, "Tarnished Heisman." If so, will you share your thoughts after reading the book? If you have no plans to read it, why not? Any insight is greatly appreciated. Also, thanks for the forum.
A: I have not read the book but I did look at the web site. The one interesting thing to me so far is the author says he believes USC will not forfeit any games or be penalized from the whole ordeal. Of course, the author also wrote a book involving a Papadakis.
Q: Any word yet as to the date of the spring scrimmage? Do we even know if it will be held at the Coliseum considering the current circumstances?
A: Spring practice starts March 25. The scrimmage will be in April, but I haven't asked the date. It will be at the Coliseum.
Q: In your humble opinion is there an outstanding issue between Pete Carroll and Norm Chow and what flaw prevents Chow from getting a head coaching position for a college football team?
A: I'm going to assume you mean do Pete Carroll and Norm Chow have differences today? They are able to exchange small talk but too much went down three years ago to ever repair the damage done, and if I guess correctly, you wonder if they could ever work together again. The answer is no.
Chow's interviewed for several jobs but the conventional wisdom is he does not interview well. He loves to coach and is very easy to get along with on a one-on-one basis. He doesn't enjoy dealing with people in group settings and probably doesn't kiss up to any athletic directors when he interviews. They like to be dazzled and that's why sometimes you see schools hire slick guys who can't really coach that well.
Q: know Pete anointed his son the recruiting coordinator once Lane left for Oakland, but something tells me that USC would have fared much better this year in securing more commitments from some of the players named had Lane been in charge of recruiting instead of Brendan Carroll.
Are their any ramblings at SC about this? If so, do you think that Pete will do anything different in putting someone else in charge of recruiting? What are your personal feelings as to why our recruiting efforts have fallen off this year unlike years past under Pete?
A: The problems with recruiting are two-fold: USC got pinched by UCLA in Southern California and Florida nationally. The reason is because USC tried to wait-and-see how good some of these recruits were locally while UCLA decided to be aggressive and offer kids they wanted immediately. That cost about three players at least. Meanwhile, Florida took several recruits that USC wanted nationally because it won the national title and because Urban Meyer is a good recruiter.
There will not be a change in recruiting coordinators. Pete Carroll is ultimately the recruiting coordinator. I think Lane Kiffin was very organized and actually did a decent job at it, better than he did as offensive coordinator.
Q: Now that the semester has begun and no silly NCAA restrictions stand between our hero Mitch Mustain and his coronation to the Trojan football throne, this raises some serious questions:
1) How does the Hollywood writer's strike affect the film rights to Mitch and Me?
2) Have you given any thought as to who will play you and our hero Mitch in the big screen version?
3) Since you rejected the notion that Damian Williams is our hero Mitch Mustain's partner in crime, and declared that you are his crime fighting partner, will the book contain a chapter on the threat that Damian Williams attempted to take your place?
4) Since you are the crime fighting partner of our hero Mitch Mustain, do you feel you have gotten lax in solving Pedalgate and the Bicycle-Contra affair? When should we expect some updates as to who(...) was behind this attempts to derail our hero from his rightful place?
A:
1.) I am not a member of the Writers Guild, so the strike will not affect the movie since I will write the screenplay.
2.) Hmmm. I think we should have someone who can embody our hero properly, perhaps Hayden Christensen. As for myself, maybe we can get Scott Wolf.
3.) We will address the misconception that Damian Williams could supplant the ``partner-in-crime'' aspect that exists between Mitch and I.
4. I admit being lax regarding Pedalgate and the Bicycle-Contra affair, because I allowed myself to become distracted by the Atlanta Falcons.

SW with ALL due respect:
1. Do you have any respect for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan?
2. WHY do you even bother to dignify the word hero when referring to Mustain? As a former Marine veteran I have a huge problem with that.
El capitan - you are an idiot. No one has any respect for you. You have no affiliation with USC, know nothing about football and constantly humiliate yourself. Perhaps if you were ever able to get a wife, you would not be so lonely as to spend all your time on USC blogs and message board bothering the good Trojans with your garbage.
Thank you.
azbet:
I got 195 pounds for your big mouth. Nobody asked for your damn BOOL$#*T. Do yourself a favor keep your **ing tail in between your damn legs A$$hole, OK? I asked SW. There goes Luis again making physical threats against people, as usual. You do realize that can get you thrown in jail for those threats, don't you, Luis?
If anyone wants to find out about how Luis (the captain!) emails reporters all the time telling them not to say anything good about Mustain and pleading with them not to mention Sanchez's off the field issues, email me and I'll forward you his emails. He is a sad, sad person. Always hiding behind a computer screen yet accusing others of the same thing.
Isn't it ironic, Luis, that you are physically threatening someone and providing irrefutable evidence against yourself, yet you go around threatening baseless legal action against anyone who knows the truth about you.
Stupidity and hypocrisy has no limits with you. So when's that court date you promised, Luis? I laugh in your face!! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Another moron. BTW did you forget the slanderous BS, A$$hole?
What a surprise, the captain hurls profanity, threats of violence, and makes this board unreadable for people who actually contribute positively.
Scott, this has gotten old. Time to ban this disruptive menace. How many hundreds of complaints from your readers does it take to ban this captain person?
these comments have no place on this site. I thought there was supposed to be a screener to keep the comments at least remotely relevant to USC football.
Lets clean up the comments
Everyone:
For goodness sake, just ignore el captain. He is very clearly an extremely lonely man who feeds off the attention he gets from swearing and insulting others on the internet. If you ignore him and his behavior, he won't know what to do.
Just ignore him.
This is the blog of obsessions. Like SW's obsession with the Standford loss.
I went to a blog, and an episode of Jerry Springer broke out. ;-)
In Captain's initial defense, he was merely objecting to the misuse/overuse of the word "hero" in relation to the true heroes out there, like police, firefighters, and those in the military. It's his opinion. He's entitled to express it.
It is a free country, after all. To call him out on that opinion is unfair.
But, Captain, you need to show some restraint. Callinh everyone foul names, and threatening to kick their butts is uncalled for. It is childish, frankly. I take you at your word that you were in the military. Perhaps you could show some of that discipline you no doubt learned in the service.
Fight On!
oops ... Calling.
uscmike:
Thanks. Please read the [SEQUENCE] of my questions? [SEQUENCE]>>>1, 2, 3, ETC, GOT IT?
1. I asked SW politely and tactfully.
2. asbetz and polo attacked me.
I reacted to their damn BS and name calling. Did I call them names to begin with? If you want to preach fairness analyze one VS one, OK? You might learn something...
3. What is so childish about that?
4. I appreciate and respect your comments. By the same token don't preach discipline like I am damn child. Are we clear?

This is a FREE country and according to these damn sanctimonious hypocrites I can NOT ask a simple question. uscmike it is OK for them to call me idiot after I asked two simple very polite questions? Did I call anybody an idiot? NO, uscmike and the rest of you: NO.
Is it perfectly and politically correct to call Mustain a hero? According to these bunch of liberal pundits, maybe. I don't NOR I will ever bite that, period.
I don't have anything against Mustain. If he wins out in the spring then so be it. Is he a hero at that point?: Again NO. He can win five Heismans and he is NOT any hero.
Speaking of heroes:
Roger Staubach(USN) won the Heisman(1963) and then defended this country in RVN. Pete Dawkins(USA) won the Heisman(1958)and fought in RVN as well. BTW BG Pete Dawkins, USA Ret. is the only Heisman trophy winner to reach flag status(admiral or general). You can call Staubach and BG Dawkins heroes.
Finally to use the word hero so loosely it is plain outrageous and disrespectful.
Have I called any athlete a hero? NO. Just to make that perfectly clear that includes Mark Sánchez.
Is that clear to everyone?
uscmike if you don't know anything about the military keep it home, OK? Thank you.
*BG-Brigadier General, a one star general.
Hey Capitan:
I said it was unfair to criticize you for expressing a very valid opinion and observation. They were wrong to pick the fight with you on that subject. Again, you have a very valid opinion that hero is being misused.
However, when you then threaten to kick butt and hurl explectivies, even if you were provoked, you have lost whatever message you were attempting to portray.
However, to threaten to kick someone's butt with you 195-lb body is childish. If you don't want to preached to like a child, then don't act like one.
Are we clear?
Fight On!
uscmike:
No we are NOT clear. Because you are missing the point or points. READ:
1. I asked a simple question.
2. I get called an idiot. According to your philosophy I am supposed to take the garbage and say yes, master. YOUR you know what, mister.
3. NO, I did NOT act childish. I defended myself.
Do me a favor don't defend me anymore,I'm better off without your hypocritical lawyering. Please save it. You are one of them anyway. I'm through with you Mr. uscmike>IT...
No problem, Capitan. Have a nice evening.
El Capitan,
I agree with USCMIKE and I love you Bro. Why? Because I consider you a SC FAN. You are a kindred spirit on the blog and you have some very interesting points of view. Also, your knowledge and observations of the games is second to none. However, Bro you really, really got to stop acting like Pavlov's dog every time somebody mentionsthe words "mustain" and "hero". Everybody has the right to make whom ever they want as their hero. Would you fault a child if their heroes were from Sesame Street? As adults we tend to replace our child hood heroes with those that make the ultimate sacrifices for the country and / or provide a service to all mankind.
