The operative word should not be 'need,' but rather who is most likely to return. Certainly Jefferson will probably bolt-- he is a man, almost 21 years old, and cannot like school that much. I saw one publication that had him as the No. 18 pick. That may not assure him of millions, but he would become a millionaire overnight. Tempting.

And there are rumors that even Hackett might turn pro in Europe, and then take his chances in the NBA. I hope he reconsiders, but the prospect of making 1/2 million a year in Europe might be too much to overcome.

Gibson probably will be back-- he is improving substantially and his pro status will also improve with more college seasoning.

D) All of the Above. I think Hack and Taj will come back, and both absolutely need to to continue their development. I also read that D-Jeff is projecting as a late 1st rounder, in which case he is gone. It shocks me, however, that such a raw, immature talent warrants a multi-million $ investment. The NBA really rolls the dice with some of these kids. And, I bet OJ stays, so we should have a nice core for a deep tourney run in '09.

Even though NOT included OJM should come back as well. A friend of mine who is a basketball guru told me that OJM would be around pick #15. I can understand the $ signs flashing their hungry wallets. At the same time they fail to see that it will take them at least a solid year before they start. Look at Kobe Bryant. As talented as he is it took him almost two years before he was a solid starter in the NBA. They can get that experience in college yet it is awfully hard to sell that to those young men.
Imagine ALL of them coming back along with OJM. You add Demar DeRozan and you have a finals team with NC caliber.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
