Here's some answers to the second Weekend Forum.
Q: If Mark Sanchez starts the season next year, do you expect the coaches to implement any new plays or formations to take advantage of his mobility?
A: I would expect some plays, like rollouts, for him but nothing too drastic and the shotgun will remain a lightly used formation.
Q: Do you feel the Bogus Championship Series set a precedent this last year by diluting the bowls leading up to the NC so as to prevent split national championships to validate its existence? I know, only one question, but this lead me to a second thought. When the AP pulled out of the BCS, the reason why is obvious, but how was it accomplished? Were voters such as yourself polled and a collective decision made?
A: I believe the parity in college football this season illustrated the illegitimate aspect of the BCS, namely that it is not a playoff and allowed one team, Ohio State, to play in the game despite a laughable schedule. A split national title might have further encouraged the drive toward some type of playoff so in that sense, maybe the BCS won that battle.
When the AP pulled out of the BCS it did not notify its voters.
Q: You have said that the current recruiting class does not have a "wow factor," but if you factor in Mitch Mustain and Damian Williams (especially Mustain), who do not count as part of the class but are as heralded and decorated as they come, would they not be more than enough in the "wow" department to make this is stellar class? After all, isn't Mustain the most decorated player we have ever had enroll?
A: Damian Williams enrolled last January so he does not count for this recruiting class. Mitch Mustain does add to the luster of this recruiting class but he is not the most decorated player to come here.
Q: Why does Pete Carroll no longer offer scholarships to high school kickers?
A: Carroll does offer scholarships to some kickers -- David Buehler and Troy Van Blarcom are recent examples. But he does prefer to try to get guys to walk on, like Mario Danelo and Greg Woidneck. The reason is because coaches feel they are taking a big chance on many kickers and worry about wasting a scholarship. Steve Spurrier used to be notorious for not offering kickers a scholarship. So unless it's a can't miss prospect, there is a reluctance.
Q: All Trojans should beware of Greeks, particularly those bearing bad jokes. Would you please use your legendary powers of persuasion to make that chucklehead Petros follow Kwame Brown to Memphis?
A: Even I'm not that powerful.
Q: SW, I joke about a lot about where you are getting your info/rumors from. You have had Coach Martin going all of over the place, and now the same with Coach Anno? So where are you getting your info from regarding these types of rumors? Fight On!
A: This is where sources come in. If you know enough people, you hear about job tips on the coaching grapevine.
Q: Rojo didn't really get as many touches as I had expected. Not even in kick of returns/punt returns. Was he not as good as expected? Can he make a huge impact at wide reciever like Percy Harvin.
A: That depends on how good you expected him to be. If you expected Dwayne Jarrett or Mike Williams, then no. But Johnson was also limited because of problems John David Booty had with deep balls. He will be better next year, but it's debatable how much better. I would not expect Percy Harvin II.
