Public vs. Private

| | Comments (9) |

Here's a forum question about how Caesar flies.

Q: I read an article stating that Coach Carroll recently walked into the weight room of a Arizona high school. He sure gets around! Now, I assume that Coach Carroll's valuable time, privacy and security is not violated by having to wait around and fight airports. Do I assume correctly that he travels by private jet?

A: It all depends on where he is going and for how long. Usually, most recruiting trips are flown commercial. However, when he went to the Senior Bowl, he flew a private plane. And the same when he attended Bill Walsh's funeral. It's nice to have rich boosters. Remember that when you pay the increase for season tickets. But it's better to fly Caesar Air than U.S. Air.

This is one of those derogatory jabs at USC you are so famous for. SW, it does not gender respect for you or your coverage of USC sports. Truth is RN at UCLA will handle his travel the best he can financially, as will every Coach at every Univercity.

If you or the Daily News would like to foot the bill, I am sure all the Coaches across America will apreciate it.

Reminds me of the corrupt congress grilling of Howard Hughes where they accused him of giving bribes to get contracts and he said it would be great with him if they wanted to make them illegal so then he wouldn't have to do it anymore. Till then, he would continue giving bribes to remain competetive in business as everybody did it.

If you really believe the way travel is handled is wrong, then suggest a way to change it and get the NCAA to agree with you and bankroll it.

I doubt Scott thinks it's wrong, but he just can't help being a teenage girl about it.

Wow Scott, thanks for really being a man of the people. Can you now take on Starbucks charging us $1.75 for a cup of drip coffee.

By the way, if you ever generated revenue for the Daily News to the same degree Coach Carroll does for USC Athletics, I bet you'd get your choice of transportation as well. Good to know that you're a populist and will continue to fly coach in order to keep the Daily News under $1.

I heard Coach Carroll just got a new Impala.

What Scottie forgot to mention is that these flights are usually DONATED by big donors or supporters. It is a way the school actually offsets some travel expenses. At least that's how it used to be.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
