Reverse Course
We've been talking about this since last March but it came up again yesterday. Pete Carroll prided himself on following the ``Florida State’’ model of recruiting the past few years, which meant holding your scholarships as long as possible and taking commitments in January.
But colleges are offering so early now that USC lost out on some recruits it waited on in this class. So Carroll changed his mind and already has eight commitments for the Class of 2009.
``We’ve had to adapt,’’ Carroll said. ``I wish we could wait until their senior year on players but we can’t.''

Boy, this recruiting situation is getting worse. Now the colleges have to get commits from high school juniors just to compete? This means evaluating 16 year olds. No wonder Pete did not want to go there. What an inexact science this is, and there will be plenty of missteps by all the colleges.
