Talking Point
Did anyone hear ESPN analyst Sean Salisbury say that college football recruits should stay away from Arkansas and its untrustworthy new coach, Bobby Petrino?
Was the former USC quarterback trying to influence Joe Adams, who at the time was committed to USC but seriously considering his eventual choice, Arkansas.
At least this talking point did not come from Caesar, who told me Petrino made a good decision.

Didn't he graduate around 15 years ago? I haven't hear much from him as far as being called an USC "homer" or even spotted on campus.
Now if Ronnie Lott or Keyshawn said it on the air that would be something else...
Salisbury is a Johnny-come-lately to the SC bandwagon. He didn't say peep for 19 years after he graduated, but now cant go without mentioning his ties to USC every 10 minutes.
The less that guys says about his time at SC or boasting about his ties to SC the better. He's just plain awful and like Grover said, he's jumped on the bandwagon recently and before the '05 season, I forgot he was even wore the cardinal and gold.
This smells like old news to me.
And I don't think Salisbury does SC any harm with his little quips. He loves the school, even if he wasn't vociferous about it in the past. Besides, I've heard him talk about the Trojans in glowing terms for at least four or five years, so he can't be that much of a Johnny come lately.
Sureshot -
"at least 4 or 5 years"?? NAd Pete Carroll has been winning at SC for how long?
Point made.

Uuuh, fellows, I don't recall hearing too much from SC followers during the '90s. Only after Coach arrived in 2001 and started the dynasty in 2002 did I hear much from the Trojan faithful. So let's not be too harsh here.
I did NOT hear his comment. Just because some of you here do NOT tune in to ESPN it does NOT mean that he is NOT loyal to USC. On the contrary he mentions USC. If he thinks his comment(s) could be bias he clearly says I have to be objective about this. On a lighter note he had a bet with Mike Golic( ESPN Mike and Mike) who went to ND. USC won and Mike Golic NOT only wore an USC T-shirt he also sang the USC fighting song on the air!
I like Sean, fondly recall his days on the field, and am proud to have him as a part of my Trojan family. I saw his Petrino comments on ESPN and it was not dissimilar from many harch criticisms from sports analysts about Petrino at the time. While I assume that ESPN asks Sean and others to be outspoken and contentious for pure entertainment value, I like that he is opinionated as I find many of his opinions to be insightful and spot on. I don't think that Sean even knows who Joe Adams is, and I am sure that his opinion had nothing to do with college recruiting. Fight on, SS!
Why does Wolf always have something negative to say- "PAC 10 is overrated", "Did you hear what Salisbury said", etc. Someone pointed out that the SEC plays only half of their games as conference games and has 4-5 punching bags and he said "yes but they have a championship game so it's harder because they have to play one of the harder teams in their conference to win it" (as if a round robin didn't include playing EVERYBODY). If only we had a major daily who assigned USC coverage and a blog to a non-douche. Scott wins best SC coverage by virtue of his position.
Anyway, I've seen Salisbury come by to talk to his frat, for Skull and Dagger events and lots of things since he left the NFL. He was a heck of an SC qb and he's a true Trojan. At the same time he isn't any more of a homer than the SEC types, ND types, Michigan types, Miami types, etc. The sportscaster all seem to support their schools and have fun with it so why should USC alum be different? Salisbury's statement about Petrino was entirely valid (he has screwed tons of people in his wake and his word means nothing) and Adams was already an SC verbal. So what's the point?
