This one revolves the coaching search and a little-remembered fact.
Q: You mentioned that PC was the forth choice for SC. I know Oregon's Bellotti and Erickson (when at Oregon State) turned down the job. Who else? Was it Dennis Franchione? At the time I thought ASU made a better hire with Dirk Koetter from Boise. Shows you what I know.
A: Mike Riley, then with the San Diego Chargers, was the third choice. He had problems getting out of his contract with the Chargers. After it broke that USC was going to hire Pete Carroll, and the ensuing commotion, the scheduled press conference was delayed for one day. USC actually contacted Riley that evening and checked his status one more time before introducing Carroll the following day.

Typical Scotti blunder.
Mike Bellotti was NEVER offered the job; the fact that you're the beat writer and don't know that is truly sad.
Bellotti went in for an interview with all parties (including Garrett and Gross) assuming that Bellotti would get an offer. But, Bellotti was so arrogant and totally unprepared and generally unprofessional that Garrett refused to give him the offer.
As to Riley, he was not actually offered the job, as you seem to concede. He may have been the theoretical second choice (after Erickson), but he never even interviewed for the job.
Scotti, I'm just some guy and I know this stuff; shouldn't SC's longtime beat writer be on top of it? Geez.
ouch
ouch
typical Wolf Fact Checker being the loser that he is...
Bellotti and Erickson were Garrett's No. 1 and 2 choices but just used USC to get bigger bumps on salaries...Riley was the No. 3 choice and don't forget Sonny Lubick at Colorado State was in the mix...
so with so much knowledge...WFC is probably the same guy or a friend of a guy that got fired three times from three different jobs in less than 18 months...
too bad you don't have a steady job like Scott...nice try, loser....
Please do not misquote me. I said Pete Carroll was the fourth CHOICE. I said Mike Riley was the third CHOICE.
I never mention anyone being OFFERED the job. I don't write the questions. I answer them.
Holy crap! Someone actually got Scott to reply. (And here I thought I would be the lucky guy). And not only did Scott reply but he totally owned the guy. Hilarious. My life is now complete.
Damn, Wolf lays it down with AUTHORITY. Respect.
As to WolfIsDaMan:
You've got the wrong guy. I haven't been fired, and I earn about ten times what I imagine is your barely-north-of-the-poverty-line $30K annual salary: dutifully earned kissing up to non-scholarship athletes, Peter Principle yes-men, and beat writers who use you for access and nothing more. You get information when your boss wants to let you know, not a moment before, and by then everyone who's anybody has it any way. Now go bother some soccer players.
As to Scott:
I certainly never "misquoted" you. You answered a question from a reader that asked (and I quote) "I know Oregon's Bellotti . . . turned down the job." Your answer completely accepted the premise without a notion of doubt. If you wanted to be straight with your readers, you would have clarified, as you did with your comment.
of course WFCheckLoser...it's obvious that despite your six figure income (or so you claim) you don't have the guts to walk up to Scott and say it to his face...like most people, you like to use an anonymous screen name and make wild conjecture which is par for the course normally for most message boards and blogs...
now be a good little boy and go run off and create your own little website...maybe people will actually care about your opinion or as the case with most things, you might get double digit responses for your comments...
it must be nice knowing that no one cares about your opinion and that you will never amount to a hill of beans...enjoy
Wow, didn't know my little question would cause such response.
Wolf fact checker......you need a life.
WolfsDaMan.......don't be such a butt kissing sycophant.
