It's that time again.

Q: Is Mitch Mustain scheduled to get first team reps when spring training begins? Has this even been determined yet?

A: Yes, he will get first team reps.

Q:If the QB competition is as open with a completely equal playing field as Pete Carroll and Steve Sarkisian keep claiming it is, then how come Aaron Corp is never mentioned as a potential starter? Obviously I realize that he may not have the talent or experience as the other two, but you would assume that he would be getting his name mentioned as often as Mitch Mustain and Sanchez if everything is as equal as the coaches say it is.

A: Because the QB competition is not as open as they say it is. He will be mentioned in the interest of fairness but he is not getting considered for the starting job.

Q: What are you thoughts on Sanchez's new tribal arm tattoo? Any truth that it is a fake Sharpie drawing? Any reason it is so similar to Hackett's? Was this the result of a drunken offseason night in Hollywood with Rey?

A: No thoughts at all.

Q: Any chance of getting the screenplay remake of "Top Gun" approved for production starring Mark Sanchez as Maverick and Mitch Mustain as IceMan? Do you think this remake would have any chance of topping the open weekend record set by "Mitch and Me"? Any chance of organizing a beach volleyball match between Sanchez/Havili and Mustain/Williams? Will Mustain be okay as Sanchez' wingman?

A: Nothing will top the opening weekend of ''Mitch and Me.'' The Top Gun remake will have to wait because I have a three-picture exclusive deal with Mitch.

Q: I didn't realize that Mayo and Jefferson were such old "Freshman". Could you explain that oddity and is this common? Thanks.

A: You forgot to mention that Taj Gibson was a 21 year old freshman last year. Everyone's reasons are different, and sometimes it's family or personal issues, but the bottom line is it took them longer to matriculate than the average students. Is it common? At USC, yes. Is it unusual at other schools? No.

Q: Seems like the Pac 10 lost a lot of QB's to graduation in 2007. Usually that portends a down year for the Pac. What is your Pac 10 forecast as a conference for next year? Also, didn't you write a Pac 10 outlook for one of the preseason rags last year? Are you going to be doing any this year? If yes, let us know which one.

A: I think Cal might be better from a team chemistry standpoint, so I'm not sure yet if they will be worse. Stanford and Washington have to be better. Arizona State looks like the second best team. Oregon should be worse. Oregon State should be worse but they tend to surprise. It's still too early to project, ask again after spring practice. I haven't decided yet whether to write a preview for one of the ''rags.''

Q: With so much talk that Mike Montgomery is the chosen successor as the next USC basketball coach should Tim Floyd leave, has there actually been any contact, informal or otherwise, between anyone at USC and Montgomery?

A: Nothing formal, just some informal stuff that never really became a big issue because Floyd looks like he is staying.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
